So... finally bit the bullit on a 500E!

Been lurking around for quite some time now and have seen a few very nice ones but never really got the nerve to buy one....until yesterday.

I have a good friend who imports cars from Japan and he pointed me towards an immaculate 500E limited in "blauschwarz" last week and yesterday he went looking at the car.

The car has done 80.000kms and has a lot of options from the factory and is (apart from an aftermarket HU) completely stock, and offcourse it has full documentation (which was a must have for me)

I'm really excited to see in in person and to bring it completey up to showroom condition.

Tomorrow I will post some pics and the VIN to check it out.

Cheers Marc

Re: Owner Marc R 500E limited

Try imgur. Can you post some pics of the b5 rs4 as well? Never officially imported here in the US so a rare sight as well :)

Re: Owner Marc R 500E limited

WOW!!

Congrats Marc, I see you were not messing around. You won't be sorry.
Can't wait to see the pics.

Take Care

Let me guess....

Indeed ... It's "009 blau-schwarz" .... interior is grey "limited."

Today i will receive the VIN

Looking forward to seeing it man. I'd love an E500 Limited, I think the interior is awesome, even if it doesn't hold up too well to wear and tear unfortunatly (I think it's painted).

009 is Sapphire Black (I think).

doesn't the 009 have a darkblue appearance or is that a different colour?

I have the the options list for now;

009
032
249
270
272
288A
305
412
441
540
551
570
581
592
620
658
682
732
810
819
866
873
885
958

We can all check what they mean... ;-)

It seems that the car has the -810 SOUNDSYSTEM- fitted, does anyone know the specs of this system?

Congratulations Marc, also much quicker than I thought. Really looking forward to see the pics and a little bit jealous because I prefer the grey Limited interior to the red...

And yes, 009 looks like dark blue as long as there is enough light.

Thank you Mathias!

Even though the interior isn't bad I have send an email to the german leather restorer to get a quote for a refresh of the limited interior....i'd like to bring the car back to showroom condition.

Love Limited in silver....but never saw Mopf1 Limited....what happened to this beauty??

Ohh haha that's not mine...it isn't the silver one...

That was just a guess from a new member, mine is 009 with grey limited leather.

Okay....some pics from the seller...beware they are bad quality...But the guy who was there on behalf of my friend said the car was in excellent condition.

Offcourse I knew already that an interior which is 20 years old cannot be 100% , this "problem" will be fixed as soon as it arrives.

Looks nice Marc! I notice that the seat colouring is in very good shape, especially on the passenger's seat! However, the colouring on steering wheel and shifter has gone almost white. Perhaps the seats have been refurbished or recoloured already?

Air snorkels in engine bay look original and I like the auto climate system! Where is the car now and when do you expect it?

Hey Mathias,

Indeed the shifter and steering wheel need some repair, but i'm really considering refurbishing the whole interior just to have that "done" so to speak.

The car is in storage now to get ready for shipping, after that its between 6 and 8 weeks.

Hello Marc - and congratulation with your Limited! :thumbsup2:

This is probably a Japan import since you have to wait 6-8 weeks for it?
I guess you are going to do something with that amber blinker on the front fenders...:| That thingy is obligatory here in Norway too, but the 500-owners rarely use them. To pass the EU periodic vehicle inspection every second year, some are fixing a temporar blinker with double sided tape in line/above the fender sacco, route the wire down behind the sacco, inside the fender, over the fender liner to reach the corner lamps to get a blinker signal.

Since you were asking, I've enclosed a copy of the datacard on my Limited. It's just for comparison so I can delete it later on to avoid confusion in your thread.

Good luck with your ride!

Hi Arnt,

Indeed it is a Japan import, maybe I misunderstand you but what is wrong with the side blinker?

I do not see any problem with it.

They don't appear to be OE ? Not a big deal as you can always replace them and perhaps match them with clear ones (as in facelift type ) with the front blinkers . Japan/UK and some Scandinavian countries required side blinkers, but NOT the US and most euro states like Germany .

And sad to see that some (especially Japan) DIY cut the fenders and place them incorrectly . Yours appear to be correctly placed though . FYI , Here's the correct placement:

Hi Bing,

Thanks for your post, I believe those orange blinkers are OEM ..just look at post no:10 in this thread...there is a silver Japan import 500E also fitted with the orange blinkers.

The white ones are a good idea though... will do that mod.

Marc,

My comment about the side blinkers is just for aesthetic reasons - nothing else, so please don't take it as an offence about your car. :)
That section on the front fenders are one of the most tasteful spots on the 036 body IMO, so the side blinkers just disturb the design lines a bit.

So, my proposal was just in case you wanted to delete the side blinkers, but still have a temporary solution ready to hook up prior to the EU periodic vehicle inspection. However, replacing with OE clear side blinkers to match the corners and be period correct will be nice, and you're good to go!

To add even another opinion: if the car was orinially delivered in a non-side blinker country like Germany, I would get rid of the side blinkers alltogether. They are not obligatory in the Netherlands. Check the datacard to see where you car was delivered.

Just my two cents ;)

I don't see it as an offence Arnt... not at all..

But maybe it is strange but I really don't see any disadvantage in the sideblinkers iover there...they do need to be white though...

Then you'd have to fill in the holes or get new fenders [emoji33].

I like the way they look but never could muster the conviction to add them to my US model.

Today I received the new limited leather parts for the car..... i know it's a bit premature but i already decided to refurbish the interior.

I also took the " first dibs" on a very nice set of Brabus monoblock VI's in 18 inch.... so the first goodies have arrived before the car is here.... :D

I recommend you don't throw away the original leather, keep it for historical reasons about the car.

..my 2 cents. :-)

Here are some pics of the brabus wheels I bought, I will have the edges polished by a professional company over here in holland.

Specs of the wheels are

8.5Jx 18 ET 35 front
9.5j x 18 ET 38 Rear

Should I run a small spacer or not? (i like to fill the arches but no rubbing offcourse)

And which size tyres are best for these wheels?

Nice wheels you got there! I almost would have bought the same, but with black spokes.

Anyway ET-s are quite OK. Maybe rear 38 is a bit to much, but you could live with that. If you plan to run a spacers, I wouldn´t recommend wider than 10 mm, max 15 mm. It puts some add.pressure to the chassis. I tried 25 mm spacers with those W220 AMG wheels and the steering felt quite uncomfortable. I also had to change all wheel bearings later. Maybe it was because of the wheels ET43, maybe spacers, maybe because of our shitty roads here, I don ´t exactly know:)

About the tires, I would use next in front 225-245/40 and rear 245-265/35.

245/40 front with 275/35 rear. Or if you really want wider rubber, 255/40 with 285/35 (this is factory fitment on Mercedes 8.5/9.5 wheels). If you choose any other sizes... make sure the front & rear diameter/circumferences match within 1% or you will have issues with cruise control, ABS, and ASR.

Try them without spacers, if you want more protrusion you could run 10mm spacers front & rear (even with the 255/285 tyre combo). Remember you may need custom lug bolts... I think Brabus requires ball-seat lugs, and those will be M14 ball seats, which don't work with M12 lugs. Double-check before installing.
