@GSXR,

I just received the Brabus wheels and they require cone shaped lugs... but do you happen to know the size of these lugs?

Maybe brabus needs longer lugs,i don't know?

I don't know the length required, sorry! You'll have to get at least one cone-seat lug with M12 thread, and measure how far it protrudes on the back side of the wheel. I believe you want it to protrude 20mm as measured on the back of the wheel... think 15-16mm is bare minimum, and you can't get more than 23-25mm or the bolt will hit the parking brake shoes inside the rear hubs. (There are no length limits up front, btw.)

I checked out the max. lengths on the rear bolts some years ago. The rear wheel hub flange is 18 mm, and it is max.10 mm free space before you hit the parking brake. I could get over 11 mm, but keep in mind that the parking brake internals has a loose fit/tolerence with say +/- 1 mm, just a guess. So the bolt protrusion from the wheel face is max. 28 mm. The bolt hole threads start 1,5 mm inside the hub flange face, so it is important to utilize the threads throughout flange thickness for satisfactory bolt grip. That way you also protect the bolt hole threads against rust and dirt build-up.

Arnt, there may be some variation in production tolerances. I tested a wheel/lug combo that protruded 25mm and when turning the wheel, there was an audible "tick... tick... tick.." as the lug bolt touched SOMETHING inside with every rotation. Definitely need to double-check this before driving away with your new wheels mounted!!

+1

Yes, the parking brake internals is really sloppy stuff, so the clearance has to be checked in any case.

Hey Guys,

Today I received info on the whereabouts of the car or better the vessel which transports it.

2nd of October the cargoship went from Japan to a port in Colombia and today it's destination was Lima/Peru....tension is building.. :nobmw:

ETA Port of Rotterdam will be around 1st of december..

Today I managed to secure a new set of genuine hella E500 headlights for 525 euro incl VAT , I guess it's a great price for new hella's. :-)

Slowly but surely i'm getting a little agitated ... the waiting time for the limited is killing me....

Since the waiting time is almost over I treated myself with another goodie... And what!

I managed to buy a genuine 500E electronic AMG 300km/h speedo... I'm under the impression it's pretty rare...

Seems nice. I think while my face and needles are in good shape, the bottom part under the idiot lights has turned a bit brown. Some SEM in Landau Black is in order for me.

Marc, great car and choice. Can't wait to see more photos, and see what you have in store for it!

Would you happen to be able to find another E500 AMG cluster? That's an amazing find. :)

I stumbled upon this cluster in my search for an AMG exhaust for the 500,then I saw this and first made sure it was a real AMG cluster for the 500.

I got it from Japan so you can imagine the effort in trying to buy it.

Marc,

I hope you get a big Christmas present this week.

I think we are all as anxious as you are for Santa to arrive.

We are all waiting with bated breath to see you open it.

Talk about a "Slow Boat from China"/ Japan. That is a long trip.

Merry Christmas

hey Terry,

Thanks a lot, im also very exited , the boat is nearby at the moment.... Can't wait.

Well... Got the news this morning my car has been unloaded at the port.... Only.... It's the wrong port :blink:

It's not at the port of Rotterdam but in Zeebrugge .... That's a 3 hour drive from my hometown.... Nevertheless, i'm going to try to collect it wednesday.

So a little hiccup but nothing that can't be solved.

Oh and yes, i'll make lot's o' pics

Unloading a car in port is something like an openning a Christmas gift Lol

Well to be honest it did not... the car could not be collected in the "wrong" port , customs only wanted to clear the car in the designated port of arrival so i guess it will be released next week...

The waiting continues... :|

Update;

The car has been released finally, but now I only have time this saturday to pick it up.... so the end (or beginning) is near :-)

Marc,

We haven't heard from you lately. Just wondering about your new ride if you got it home yet.

I know winter must make logistics terrible over there for getting much accomplished.
I hope everything is going well for you.

Let us know what's happening.

Take Care

always thought the sporttec rims looked great on audis. still miss my b6 nogaro S4 Avant some. power on yours is amazing - must be fun!!

i thought those brabus rims would look great - what's the plan now?
need update pics! :drool5:

Hi Guys,

its been a while indeed but i was on holiday in Austria (skiing) and in the meantime i did not have time to pick up the car.

but we got back very late yesterday and early this morning (my wife was very happy....not) i went to pick it up.

so i just got back and gave it a quick wash to check it out.

later today i will post some pics and write my comments about the car.

So, as promised a little write up on my E500 , things I have seen so far.

The car is as it has been described by the seller , it's in good condition for it's 20 year age but it has it some points of attention offcourse.

From what I have seen in these few hours the points of attention are,

1. Interior needs a refurbishment to bring it to A1 level.
2. I believe the viscus fan is stuck but i'm not quite sure yet so i need to dig into this.
3. 2 minor scratches on front and rear fender which need to be repainted.
4. Indicator handle icons have faded so this needs replacing.
5. Transport company has damaged the wheels so they need refurbishment (insurance)
6. Front brakes swap with SA brakes (sorted with Dave > Thanks!)
7. European radio instead of Japan.
8. Bushings of the transmission selector need replacement
9. Front grill insert is a little faded so this needs replacing too.

On the positive side :

The owner has done:
-New upper engine harness
-Full engine maintenance incl ingnition cables
-Car has no rust as far as I can see.(will do better inspection soon)
-1 year old battery
-Paint is (apart from an extensive detail) in good condition.

Plans on upgrades are:

- FGS valve (sorted, needs to be fitted though)
- White side indicators (sorted)
- WOT LH ECU (sorted)
- Metal oil filler tubes (sorted)
- Car cover (sorted, thanks MLAURS i'll contact you soon)
- AMG 300kmh speedo

Hmm something went wrong i think.... The pics were turned upsidedown in the process... How do i solve this?

Beautiful car - well done! Pictures go straight if you click on them. Looks like it has nice options too. The airbox is wrong for a Limited by the way (Limited does not have the white writing). You also seem to have quite a few lights on looking at the speedo - hope they're nothing too serious. Looking forward to seeing more photos :)

Edit - just spotted the ignition is on hence the lights.

Marc,

Very Nice!! Finally, the wait is over but well worth it. Being on a ship that long would have made me very nervous.

It's a beauty and sure looks clean in the pics. I like everything about it. Color, Interior, Evo Wheels and engine bay and all in damn good shape. Being a 95 makes it very rare bird.

I'm glad to see you have a nice cozy garage to put her in. It's going to be hard to resist driving it soon. I KNOW you want to.

Surprised to see no snow at your home. I thought by now you would be at least ass deep in it.

I wish you the best of luck with it.

Hi Marc,

Seems you got yourself one very fine example of the E500 Limted there! Congratulations, you finally got this beauty home. I think the engine wasn't running when you took the inside photo's right? In that case, all those warning lights should just be check lights. I truly hope so anyway.

Fortunately, these coming days seem to be without any rain and I suspect that any remaining salt will be washed away by now. So I guess you will be taking here for a drive to the motor bureau any time soon to get this baby imported? Or you can just look at it, gaze at the wide fenders, subtle masculine look of the car and the built-to-last-a-100-years-quality of it all. I know I would!

M.

I'll think registration will be in March or April when the weather is good.... Would you like to meet before that or when i get the car on the road?

I guess a 500's meeting is cool...

Yes, let's do that. March or April would be best weatherwise and having the opportunity to go somewhere with a view and take some pictures.

Been following this thread but not posted yet. Congratulations, it looks like a really good car, the same spec and year as mine.
I am missing the original steering wheel, gear knob and those Limited sill plates, love to find a set?? Even more so when I see yours..

I think your burlwood steering wheel is nicer than mine tbh.... Seems like an OEM option to me.

Congrats on getting it! Looks amazing.

Do you know if the wheels are diamond polished finish or the silver painted ones?
