Hi all,

I´m Kristian, now the happy owner of a 1993 500E. I´m from Norway, but currently living in the US and working in Palo Alto, CA. I grew up in a 1992 230E, that my family owned from when I was 3 until the rust killed it 19 years and 420 000 km later. I also have a 1988 300CE in Norway, and I´ve had several 124-series station wagons and sedans. My dad´s had a handfull cabs too. So now that I found a black/black 500E in San Jose, I had to buy it, even though I already had bought an 1995 E420 a couple months earlier.

The car has been discussed in the forum previously, but I must say I´m very satisfied so far. The overall condition is really good. I´m shipping it to Norway when I´m moving back. Completely rust free, which is much harder to find in Europe. I would like to replace the grill and put on euro headlamps. I also need to replace the E500 badge with a silver 500E badge, and the trunk lid star. I haven´t got to take any new pictures, but the car remains the same since then. It has now run 130 000 miles.

There´s a few sounds from loose interior parts when driving on bumpy roads. I glued the roof carpet around the sunroof, which helped a little. But I fear that some of the screws for the wood panels on the doors are loose and making noises. Any other suggestions?

Very nice, looks quite fresh.
Put some thin rubber between wood trim and door panel.
What is that??

Hei Sten Kristian - gratulerer med nyinnkjøpt 500E! :thumbsup2:

Finally you made your choice, and the car looks great. I realised I forgot to respond to your latest email, sorry, but is this one of the cars you mentioned? The SLR style wheels looks good on it giving a nice stance. Nice to see it has the latest interior upgrades as el.steering column and el.LH mirror, and probably the el.rollo sunblind and autodimming rearview mirror too? However, those options can be added later on if desired. I agree on the Euro headlights, that's mandatory for the 124.036. The tail lights looks like smoked Hella?

You have a great pair of cars now - both a 034 and a 036.

Cheers,
Arnt

Thank you all for nice feedback!

Nice car. Did you buy it in Oregon?
Thanks! I bought it in Campbell/San Jose, California. I think the previous owner bought it in Oregon, and he had only been driving the car less than 1000 miles.

Thanks! I just put on some leather care on the interior. But the paint looks nice too, there´s a few scratches, but no dents. That´s a good suggestion, I just realized I don´t have the tools to demount the entire door panel now. The thing in the rear center console is a third-party 110V US outlet and some audio outputs. Looks OK, so I´m not sure if I would spend time finding a new wood panel to replace it with.

Hei Arnt! Mange takk! :)

No worries! This was one of the cars I mentioned, yes. There was one in Berkeley, CA (http://www.500eboard.com/forums/sho...y-130kmi-9k-(Berkeley-CA)&highlight=berkeley), but it was constant running on 120C. And I had a look at one in Burlingame (http://www.500eboard.com/forums/sho...kmi-10k-(Burlingame-CA)&highlight=burlingame). Even though it was in very good condition, cheaper and I had bought a car from the dealer previously, it was still not black/black. So I ended up buying this, the previous owner had a lot of Porsches and more than a handful motorbikes, he seemed to me like a guy who cared for his vehicles.

I like the wheels better and better, but I have a set genuine 3-piece 17" AMG wheels in Norway that I´m considering using. It has the el. steering column, the LH mirror and the el. rollo. It misses the rearview mirror, but I have one in Norway I can install. The tail lights are smoked Hellas, yes! I haven´t seen that before, but they are in quite good condition.

Thanks! I´ve been kind of forced by my dad to sell the C124 now, otherwise he won´t let me garage it any longer. But I´ll see if I can work something out ;)

Nice car in a great stock condition ! I love these wheels do not know if you are going to keep them but they are hot. I think color and pattern fits this body color combination.

Good idea to replace badges on a back. I would also replace hood star, the new one will be extra shinny.

Thank you, Roma_500E! In the beginning I thought they were a little overkill for the car, but now I like them better. So I might just keep them and use the AMG wheels on another car. It´s a bit funny that these wheels fits this well on such an old car! I´ll try to find a place to buy these small badges and upgrades here in the US.

You still has that mirror?! I think I requested you to sell some years ago, but you refused - but even better you finally got a car for it. :-)
You must debate about using the AMG Aero II, they are really great on black 500Es. I like the smoked Hella tail lights too, I happen to score a set myself this winter on Ebay.de

Thank you so much Arnt, I´ll look this up! Yes, I remember! Ha ha. Thanks! Did you find another one to buy? I am constantly debating it with myself, let´s see how it ends up :P Good to hear that you found smoked Hella tail lights for your car too!

bing: That´s a good idea! It might help on the overall look.

Yes, I found another auto.dimming mirror, it was unbelievably at the local breakers here in Kongsberg! I also found a complete rear window sunblind the same day, so I guess that was my day. :-) The 124 cars doesn't stay long at the local breakers here, they are demolished in 2-3 weeks at best.

Cheers

Congratulations! I went to look at this car a few months back and it did look quite nice. The PO mentioned that he thought the rear suspension had been replaced with traditional springs, but I couldn't confirm. All the hydraulic stuff seemed to be in place under the hood. He seemed like an honest guy and he seems to have taken good care of the car and not driven it much while he owned it. The Lorinser wheels are definitely a plus: even if you don't keep them, they have some value on the market. IIRC, the grille was a bit loose, like it was missing some screws or something -- probably an easy fix. Enjoy!

Thank you, janos_z! That´s interesting! I looked at it a couple of times, and spent over a month to decide if it was what I wanted :P Yeah, the PO seemed like a really honest guy, and you could tell he had been taking good care of the car. I haven´t checked the rear suspension actually, but if it have been replaced as I also was told, I might take it back to original at a later point. I wanted a black/black car, so I found this to be a very good example! I have tried to fasten the grille, but there are some nuts missing, and the grille seems to be aftermarket, so the fitting is poor. But I have several of these in Norway, so when I get the shipped over there in the fall, I´ll replace it. :) Please let me know if you are in Palo Alto and would like to stop by for a chat! :D
