I bought a used set of 18" staggered R129 SL AMG 2pc wheels (see pic below) for my E500 but I am still on the fence as to whether or not I am going to use them.

If you have photos of any Mercedes sedan with these wheels please post them so I can get a better feel for how good they might look :)

*Edit* Please post pics of any style of 18" AMG wheels on W124s!

Thanks

Thanks for the pics. That car looks great.

I wonder if those are replica AMG wheels? The real ones have silver assembly bolts but those wheels have black bolts.

I guess they may be replicas - the offset is pretty extreme the wheel edge is flush with the guard lip front and rear on that car, it does look good though! Actually it's been for sale for over 12 months in the yards, they are asking a bit much at 34,000 AED ($9200) it's badged as an E60 though it's a 500E with late front, I tried to buy it cheap because it does have a mint grey interior with speaker door panels and I had considered swapping the interior with mine and turning it over, but alas he won't budge and it will end up being another unfortunate Japper that gets handed from yard to yard and baked in the sun, pity that.

Back to your wheels.... I vote you fit them to your car they be a sexy looking style !!

At this time the tires were Michelin Pilot Sports

Front 245/40/18 with H&R 12mm spacers for an effective offset of 13

Rear 275/35/18 no spacers

Trying to work out why the front looks so clean.... there's no plate ! Is that allowed in California?

Is that evil grin in the last pic because you've just stolen somebody's golf clubs?

California requires a front plate, but since the car is not driven much I just keep the plate off the car. I also decided to keep the front headlight wipers off the car, but I have the correct wipers nib

My E500 is extremely camber hungry on standard non-spaced wheels on the road - i wanted to check if the spacers affect the handling and increase the hunting for cambers by the car on the road as had thought about spacers at one stage

Thanks for all of the photos.

I will most likely end up using the SL 2pc set on my car. There are two aspects of the wheels that bother me when installed on an 036.

1 - From some angles (mostly viewed straight-on) they tend to look a bit too modern and open for this '80s look car. I think the W210 E55 18" Monoblock looks much older, even though they were both released around the same time.

2 - The rear wheel (18x10" ET25) is, IMO, way too aggressive looking on an 036. Obviously this is highly personal. Sure it fits, but I think it pokes out waaaaay too much in the rear. Consider that as-delivered the 036 had the exact same width and offset of wheels at all four corners. With the SL combo the outer edge of the rear wheel sits out 19mm more than the front wheel! This isn't a good, balanced look....again IMO ;) To cure this I have gone to great trouble and expense having a local wheel specialist customize my rear SL wheels to make them 18x10" ET35. For reference the 18" W210 E55 Monoblock that so many 036 owners use is an 18x9" ET35 so my rear wheels will still sit out 12mm more that these do. Plenty aggressive for such a classy old car.

Keep posting up great looking cars :) I would love to see a photo showing the 18" E55 wheels and 18" SP 2pc wheels together! Time for an 036 meet?
