Recommended tire size for 17" AMG Aero III Wheels by OZ Racing

Very pleased with TheMBMarket.com's handling of the situation, not happy with seller AMGMB. I'm getting the commission back from the marketplace and only $500 back from seller. I offered to send back the two rear centers for replacement since he's selling these all the time and appears to have them in stock. Has a set for sale that didn't meet reserve yesterday. He wanted me to send the whole set back at my expense which is prohibitive expensive from my location. Already spent over $1k to get them shipped here and it would cost a lot more to send them back. Opted for taking a bad deal over a good fight. Now I have to find a solution such as procuring new centers or buying a whole new set. Any other ideas ?

AMGMB

This was 100% the seller's responsibility to make it right. Sad to hear that didn't happen. It's possible he didn't know about the modifications, but should have eaten the loss and made you whole. In the future, hopefully AMGMB will check these 3pc center to verify they are not milled down or otherwise modified before he sells them for $5k-$7k/set.

Just purchased a second set of AMG OZ Racing Aero III wheels on eBay and 3 of 4 wheels have cracks. This was not disclosed by seller and very complicated and expensive for me to return since I already exported them to my country.

Seller is only offering a return now that he knows it's very hard for me to return them. So I'm on my own.

I've been searching on forums and find very conflicting information on repairability and if using them this way represents a safety hazard. Have found cero reports of them failing with these hairline cracks from center bore to bolt holes (except for this post OZ racing 17inch AMG cracked but a different defect). Trying to weld them seems to be a bad idea since it degrades the mechanical properties in heat affected zone and only moves the weak point to a different place along the edge of the weld.

Anyone here been using them with these cracks that can report back.

What do you guys think?

It is obviously not a good thing when these are cracked. BUT, i really dont see how it will affect anything, and becoming " dangerous".I do have a friend, that has had his 3piece aeros for 20 years, and they have been cracked on all bolt holes, for a number of years, and nothing has ever happened to his wheels. But no one can really recommend to continue to use the wheels, but in all honesty i dont think they will ever crack to the extent of them actually falling off the car.

Thanks for sharing this. Another very important point is these are collector cars, not daily drivers.

I don't like those cracks. But, for low-speed driving to the local Cars & Coffee or whatever, it's unlikely the wheel will spontaneously break apart into pieces.

That said, I'd be nervous driving at triple-digit speeds knowing the cracks were present, let alone taking the car on a racetrack. It also hurts the value significantly.

Really not sure the 3-pc wheels are worth messing with anymore.

That is very true ,mister. I think the main thing to consider, if you are keeping these..and " trying" to get comfortable driving these, would be that you do only (as ususal) tighten these era wheels/12mm bolt holes/ etc with only 110 nm as pr manual. And that you do regular checks on the bolts, to check their tightness, and even just throw an eye on the " cracks" to see if anything changes. If done that, i would not be afraid of running around on those wheels.

Again, my friend have been driving his for years with cracks, long trips and everything, and nothing has ever happend with those wheels. However, i have told him that it is " not good" having those cracks, and advised him to just keep an eye out :) When it comes to yours, Are there no way of returning them to the seller?or

For me: Ready for the dumpster! Maybe for a car in a collection that is never driven.. I mean never! But everything else.. sorry, it’s your own risk and if somebody gives you the advice: „its safe and a friend drives them for years“.
I have no words for that!

Mounting face and sandpaper with 50-80 grid?

Contact eBay support and tell them he send you cracked rims. They are helpful, even they are exported.. 2-3 years ago I bought a 560 longblock, seller send a 500. Sellers answer: Return it on my own expense.. eBay told him to return it self and pay money back. He never did and they closed his account and send me my money back, they charged his PayPal/card account. Engine is still in my storage..

Obviously you are talking about me,,and i never said it was safe,so please dont misquote what i said!.It is pretty clear that what i said, was an explanation of a real world example, and what my thoughts are around it.If you look how the cracks are,it is pretty obvious that the wheel cannot crack completely and fall off. What can happen,is that if the crack expands, the bolt will over time, loosen tension, hense what i said about checking the bolt tension now and then. Also my last question back to the guy was " is there really no way to return the wheels".

I was actually more interested in real world experience than subjective opinions (which are also valuable but there's already a lot on the forums). So I appreciate your feedback, specially with the new binary culture of people afraid of discussing the gray are in between black or white.

I'm still trying with eBay. What makes it complicated these wheels were shipped to a forwarder in Miami, FL and they send them in a consolidated container to me in my country. eBay's solution is to ship them back, but then I can't recover tariffs and shipping costs

I see..that makes it really difficult, cause tarrifs and shipping cost is quite an amount on those wheels i reckon..
