Possible blower motor failure - help please

Hi All

Firstly, I hope everyone is ok, and doing as good as they can be.

On my 94 E500, the ac compressor was replaced with a new unit, everything was working fine, then I started getting a squeaking from the centre vent area for a week or two - I am presuming this was from the blower motor. Then suddenly air flow stopped when ac controls were engaged. No air flow for any setting (I have the auto climate control only). When I press the various buttons for air direction I hear something, I suspect this is the direction venting, moving but no air flow.

From reading I am suspecting the blower motor has gone bad - seems this squeaking is an early warning sign it’s about to go bad.

i need some advice on replacement - I am thinking to do the job myself. The problem is that in UAE, no parts are available locally either new or used; everything will have to be imported. So I need to make sure I order all the bits I will likely require.

does anyone have a parts list or can please point me in the direction where I can compile such so I have everything to hand prior to starting?

also, the original part is crazy expensive from what I have found where as UDO is cheap but questionable quality - is there a recommendation on a manufacturer to try and go with for this part?

before I order the parts, are there any checks I should do to check it is not something else other than the blower motor?

Thank you

Search the forum - there is a thread on blower motor replacement that identifies the best vendors for the fan. There is a possibility your blower motor regulator has failed and will need to be replaced as well. This is also addressed in the same thread.

You're probably need to replace your skeeky blower motor no doubt.
The stress of the bearings going out might have blown your strip fuse. It could be as simple as that for now.

Located by left front in a little black box that flips open.

Gerry was just talking about this! New posts!

Ive checked the strip fuse infront of the main fuse box. And also there is another small box with removable cover containing two ceramic fuses to the left of the main fuse box. All look good. Should there be any others? I am still learning this car. Appreciate your help, thanks

Yes, then probably your fan bushings are shot. The signs were the squeaking sounds before failure. Mine did that too.

Some times you can clean and lube the bushings.
I would also look for debris around the fan. Hair can get trapped ...or rat droppings...all kinds of crap could cause the fan to stop.

A few months ago I experienced the same symptoms as the OP. The blower motor was squealing a bit and then one day when I went to press the A/C button the whole thing went out as if a fuse blew. There was no fan at all, although I could hear the pneumatics shifting around with the press of the control unit buttons. I replaced both the motor and regulator but there was not 12v coming from the red wire where the regulator harness plugs in. Rather than rip the car apart trying to figure out why, I just tapped 12v directly downstream of the 30 amp strip fuse and got it to work again. If there's another hidden fuse in the system, other than the strip fuse, I couldn't find it. Checking for voltage is fairly easy. Just pull off the regulator harness plug and see if you have 12v coming out of the terminal that corresponds to the red wire on the regulator with the key on.

The consensus here on the forum has been if your fan stops working it's either the motor, the regulator or the cockpit control head. I'll add a fourth possible fault -- a lack of 12v going to the regulator.

Ouch. Glad you fixed it but I appreciate the tip on checking the 12v signal. I have a spare motor and regulator in my parts bin waiting for mine to blow. Its squeal occasionally and sometimes doesn't work but it seems to disappear by the next start of the engine.

As long as you have a spare ready to go it will never fail, at least that seems to happen to me a lot.

@emerydc8 —- not sure if this helps? 21B93C45-E36A-4F4E-8977-22F50BE4AE65.jpeg

IIRC, emery and I communicated about this at the time... everything was pointing to an issue with the electrical portion of the ignition switch, which is NOT fun to replace. He opted to bypass the potential problem area as a workaround. Can't recall if this was via email/PM, or in a different thread.

:wheelchair:

Thanks for the schematic. Dave did give me some help on this, as usual, and I decided it wasn't worth the effort to figure out why I wasn't getting 12 v to the red wire. I changed the ice cube relays in the relay box as well as the 30 amp strip fuse. Also tried a new control head. Nothing helped, so I just brought 12v to the red wire of the regulator. All is good now.
