Power seat switch, fixable?

Hi,
The some functions of power seat (with memory) switch doesn't always work. With memory button the functions are always ok, hence I assume that motors, wires and mechanics are ok. I have understood that the switch is wired to control box under the seat by means of only couple lines, so different functions are separated by different resistance.

My question. If the switch fails like in my case, is the reason typically mechanical or electrical? Has anybody open the switch and managed to fix it?

AFAIK it's difficult, if not impossible, to open the switch and re-assemble. The internal springs/etc are the problem to keep in place while re-assembling. I think. Usually, cycling the switch contact or button repeatedly (dozens, or hundreds, of times) may "clean" the contacts. I'm not sure if there's any way to squirt contact cleaner inside. You may also want to measure the resistance for each switch/button position to try and determine if the switch is working correctly.

I suspect it's more likely that the issue may be at the seat base...?

@Efraim,
A NEW SWITCH MAY NOT HELP.:runexe:
In the past I replaced my 93-500E DS door memory switch to no avail. It didn’t stop what you are describing.

For what it’s worth, I’m not very tall at 5’-7” and in the past I have taken my car into a tall tech guy (“6’-2” at least) and every time I have picked up the car the seat has worked perfectly.:)

I haven’t been to see him in a long time but if and when I go back I will ask what he does to get it working.

Thanks for the information and opinions. So opening the switch is not common. Of course I will take measurements before opening or replacing any components. I am also waiting for information on what was done to @TerryA 's car.
