Quickjack

Believe it or not, the "generic" Mobil1 ATF was the same price as just regular ATF, so I went with it.

I love mine, it's been great for getting under the "new" CL600. It also makes working on it, like having to work under the dash, much nicer, too, since the car is up in the air. I don't have to bend and twist so much.

Little behind on the schedule, work... This eve my little brother stopped by, so we put this thing together

IMG_2795-X2.jpg

All assembled, all blead, rises and lowers evenly, no leaks while unloaded, tomorrow - we will lift! Going to start with his R129 to remove the bumpers to mount his Expression front and rear aprons.

After watching the video, and reading up on the tips in this thread, it was very easy to set up, all in all in about an hour. Will check for the leaks tomorrow under full load, but as of now, loaded with 4 wheels and tires raises and lowers smooth and even. And I will most definitely get the rollers @Jlaa suggested, I can see those being a great help, didn't realize that these units are relatively heavy!

Regards,
D

I have a set of wall hooks for mine, and they're a real beast to lift up and hang on the hooks. However, it's a great way to store them.

I've had a difficult time with keeping the rollers on the frame using tie wraps. If I roll them over a joint in my garage floor, the rollers will get stuck and in some cases, come loose from the tie wraps.

Are you using both double sided VHB tape and tie wraps?

Yes. I've got some nasty (like 1/4" wide) expansion joints in my garage floor, and when the little rollers drop into them they get torn off the QJ. The big ones on the piece of wood are just fine.

I'm in love with this thing! So far, R129 and S2 are perfect contenders. It was easy to do initial setup and just as easy to use and store... I don't have any wall space, so this what work for me:

Pump under the garage table counter, tucked out of the way

Love quick disconnect with the dust covers! Ramps - I just leave them on the floor, and drive/back up the car into garage, no fuss, no lifting.

These really take up no space at all!

Now, to W211, it's a bit short, I think that what @mikeym using here Quickjack | Tools and Shop Equipment will work, but I'm going to buy the extender, I need an extra 5" or so and extenders give 6" that would also work on paps Cadillac, so let it be...

D

Today is a good day! I was hoping for "on sale" price for extensions, typically $345, I've seen them at $315 from ECS (not on sale as of today), but Home Depot now have these online at $299 QUICKJACK 5000TL/ 7000TL Frame Extension Kit 5620291 - The Home Depot

Estimated arrival to me Sun 16th... :jono: Transmission fluid needs to be changed on both W211, diff fluid too, bunch of other things, and as easy as it was with R129 and S2, I look forward using it with extensions on other cars soon!

Regards,
D

I have the extensions. They are not needed on the w124. but are for the 126 chassis. And I wish they were 68" as they have to be absolutely perfect and on perfect rubber as it is "just" fitting by a hair. Made me a bit anxious on the 126, but I didn't go too far with it. Perhaps someone else has 126 experience with them.

I used the QJ today for the first time with my Toyota, which has pinch welds, so I needed to use those jackpads with slots to accommodate the pinch welds.

Using those slotted pads was incredibly irritating. Getting those pads aligned just right so that when I hit the “up” button the pinch welds would go into the slots took something ridiculous—like 8 tries at up/dn/reposition. Compounding the difficulty was that I used the extensions, which have a fairly deep well into which the pads sit, so by the time the pads go within 2” of the pinch welds, I couldn’t see anything. It turned the MPJ (moderately paced jack) into SJ (slow jack).

I need to find a way to attach the slotted pad adapters to the car FIRST, then raise the QJ. Maybe I will try adhering some Velcro to the underside of the car and the top mating surface of the slotted pads. 😡

Thanks! That might work but those are not very tall …. Meaning the QJ slotted pads have some height to them… see below.

I wonder if the right approach would be to glue your amazon magnetic adapters to some blocks of wood to build up height ….. maybe JB weld? 🤔

Does your paps’ Caddilac have pinch welds?

Ohh, I see! There some very creative "adaptations" for the lifting points on the net for sure! And yes, looks like I will be in the same boat as you on paps' deville - pinch welds indeed! We need to find a good solution, Sir!

Same with the W211 and W164, You have to be right on the money with the extensions.

Just tested thes, very useful on W211, but yes, one has to be spot on with with placement of the pads! For W211, I almost think I need to get x4 of these to first fit them inside the factory jack points and have these resting on the shorter QJ pads...

Didn't know such thing exist from the dealer, thank you! Now if I can only find someone who has these in stock!

EDIT: My local dealer said they can have these 203-589-02-31-00 pads in 2-3 days, coming from FL... Thank you Dave!

I *do* really enjoy using my quickjack in my space limited garage!

FWIW - Bendpak seems to have cornered the market on these kinds of "prosumer" car lifts. Bendpak owns :
  • MaxJax (mid rise 2 post portable lift for 8' ceilings)
  • QuickJack
  • GrandPrix (7000 lbs 2 post 9' and 10' ceiling height lifts for home garage)
