The tow hook cover on my 500E has a couple of zip ties on it. They saved mine once. A chunk of tire rubber knocked it out. I actually went and bought a new one only to discover my original one hanging on by a zip tie. So I returned it.

I would think it would be easy insurance to attach a zip tie somehow.

Just thinking out loud.

And to remember to put a pair of cutters in the boot in case you need a tow !

I had a blowout last month about 5 miles from home on my way to the Goodwood circuit. I had everything I needed to put the spare on except the damn tool (or something equivalent) to remove those stoopid plastic wheel nut covers...

My car will never be towed. I pay for AAA and would be trailered if I have a breakdown. It’s happened only once in my 20 years of ownership when my serpentine accessory belt broke.

Wouldn't the tow hook cover need to be removed to winch your car onto the trailer?

NO, he put a couple of hooks under the car. I believe on the lower control arms. No harm was done. Also I had to make him watch my Renntech backbox tips so they wouldn’t scrape on the ground. So he laid down some 2X6 lumber under the DS rear wheel. It worked both on/off the flatbed.

Most tow truck drivers are prepared for any situation that comes up. Sometimes they have some pretty bad accidents to clean up.
