Gentlemen,
I just wanted to share pictures sent by a friend who works for the MB Dealership/Parts Dept. in Qatar.

The brown boxes contain NEW MB OE parts that were ordered by MB dealer in Qatar ... but have not been sold. The dealership has decided to DESTROY these parts instead of sending them back to MB Germany or even sell them thru bidding (bulk sale) ...

... now I know why there are a lot of NLA parts :pissed::whip::thumbsdown::shock:. The dealer has no qualms about destroying these NEW MB OE parts, and in effect "burning their money, as these were all paid for ... heck, what are we an oil producing country for ... awash with petro US$

And that's just Qatar, a small country compared to KSA, UAE etc ... who probably do the same with non-moving parts in their inventory.

Yes it's real ... my friend is the one who orders from Germany, what the owners want him to order. I also buy parts that are being sold dirt cheap, for my R129/M119960. Case in point, MB OE fuel pumps (2 needed for my car) are dirt cheap ... cheaper than OEM Bosch fuel pumps that are being sold by a parts store across their dealership ... why do i know, my friend supplied me 2 Bosch fuel pumps about 2 months ago, then in reply to a request for price availability of Bosch 150amp voltage regulator, rectifier and bearings ... he asked if I wanted to buy MB OE fuel pumps again for my stocking for future use at very cheap prices ... as their management wanted to dispose of these OLD Non-Moving Parts.

For their management, W210/W211/W220 are old cars ... get rid by selling cheap or destroy the parts ... why incur shipping charges to Germany, on top of their acquisition prices. The parts shown in the pictures above are to be DESTROYED.

Hello Gentlemen :)

I seriously considered applying for a tourist visa to Qatar and buying 2 airline tickets (one also for my MB parts expert now back in Manila) ... visit our friend working at the MB Qatar dealership and try to get permission to view and inspect the list of MB OE parts that are to be sold a cheap prices ... figure out the "best buys" for resale back in Manila ... instead of investing money in bank investment options (5 years at 4% per year, quarterly dividend payouts) ... but there are a lot of things that I need to take care of personally with regards to my retirement and closing my business of 41 years.

My friend in Qatar gave us 5 pages of A4 parts lists (single spaced) of these MB OE parts selling for dirt cheap ... just checking what these part numbers requires days on the computer. Thou there were hardly any part numbers that started 129 or 119 on the list.

Just for info, Qatar cannot order MB OE parts from Saudi Arabia/UAE as they are on a "blacklist" regarding "terrorist" related activities ... so Qatar has to buy directly from MB Germany for their needs. There was a time, our friend in Qatar shared, that their dealership had US$17million owed to MB Germany (yes you read it correctly) in overstock of parts. They had to settle the arrears (which they did quickly) or no more parts! But then I guess that's peanuts to them considering that they export a lot of LNG all over the world ...

Randomly found this thread today! What a shame.

I have seen this locally in Ireland whereby the MB dealer will sell of crates of NOS parts all mixed in bundles. Basically to anyone in the trade who would buy it.

I happened upon a Mercedes breakers yard who bought such a job lot in about 5 years ago.

They had about 6 pallets full of parts. This included classic stuff and modern stuff. They were pulling all the new diesel pumps and injectors etc out and were going to dump the rest as they made a tidy profit very quickly!

I was buying alot of used MB parts off them at the time before they closed up. So they told me to reverse my car in and fill my boot - free!

So I obliged and picked up alot of NOS w124, w220 & w140 parts. They are since buried among my own parts collection.

Thats the way to do it Jay, You have to be in the right place at the right time , You have to be prepaired
to buy stuff you dont want to get stuff you do want and then list and sell the rest and you have to have
the money there and then that at this time of year may not be about
Hope you are keeping well

None sense, turns out authorized MB dealerships auction off their dead stock to local indi shops.
The same is true for my country BAHRAIN.

So in conclusion, these parts were sorted and auctioned off in dealership stock auctions.
Hello BRN9121 :)

I hope that you will not misunderstand my reply, but what I have posted was a picture from my friend working at the dealership in Qatar ... he took the picture and after which had seen the parts destroyed. I have no reason to doubt what he said to me as he sends me emails when he encounters parts for my R129/M119960 that are at disposal by their dealership ... at ridiculously low prices.

Yes, their dealership do occasionally bid out "stock lots", but then they are also mandated by MB Germany to destroy certain stock lots ... based on my friend's sharing with me, I can remember this happening 2x already.

Advance Happy Holidays

oops I forgot to mention also ...

There was a time that MB Qatar was not able to buy parts from KSA and other countries in the Middle East because of certain political reasons ... so they had to buy directly from MB Germany (I do not know the present situation as far as Qatar's relationship with the other Middle Eastern countries).

MB Germany used to send them warranty parts in anticipation of recalls ... I think that the stock that was never installed on the recalls were the ones ordered for destruction rather than having to be sent back to Germany at MB Germany's expense.

Best regards

Also as I am since quite some time involved in such operations, generally there are dead stock policies where every dealership writes off old, non moving stock through a provisioning scheme. After a defined period the stock beyond an certain age is written off in the books and then there are a 3 options - scrap them, sell them off or keep them. How this is done depends on the dealer.

Return parts to the manufacturer works only in very specific and singular cases. Which are either time bound i.e. exemplary parts suggested through the manufacturer's AI forecast system or for specific items (exemplary for the takata recall - unused units had to be returned after a certain time frame).

Generally all (excl. recall or service measure parts) parts are already paid by the dealer and there is 0, absolute 0 interest from manufacturers to take these back and return (any) money...

Alot of good parts have been lost or went very cheap to the external markets. But normal practice.

I accept I have a 98 car which is very old (by MB spares standards) but this practice is probably why there is never any part in stock (other than fluids etc.) when I visit my local dealer. I now have an email address and the guy is very responsive which saves me a trip to the dealer just to be told the part will be ordered from Germany and another trip to collect it is required.
