I don't think it was really intentional, he is the oldest and most respected name in the business and did not really need to do this.And only ONE of those companies forged paperwork
I learned of another case with a tier 1 company in Germany that bought a W198 Chassis that was later found to be reported stolen!
The problem is with the lack of documentation. The 300SL Gullwing was a $200-250k car 30 years ago, I don't believe the stories of "Barn Finds" where someone found a Gullwing that does not belong to anyone in the middle of no where!
You are right, no ruling has come down in this case, yet, so Kienle and his company is innocent until a judge says otherwise. However, his company had been in dire straits financially during COVID, so I disagree that he didn't have a financial incentive to generate fake cars.
Regardless, the 37 year old company is gone
M-B bought their entire inventory and hired the techs at the classic center.
