Pls help!

Symptoms: loss of power, harsh acceleration, "coughing" feeling, engine shaking, misfiring, similar to missing cylinder or the whole block cylinders.
Only code 11 present.

So far changed: correct plugs + Beru silicone wires, caps + rotors Bosch, LH module ( ticking relay symptom corrected), E-gas module, Crankshaft sensor (there was a code for that), injectors, O2 sensor before the catalytic converter, fuel filter + other filters, Upper engine harness is 2006.

Now i think for the fuel pumps and coils, catalytic converter, last - EZL ??? What is your opinion on that please?
Will upload videos.
Thank you again.

Code 11 on what module? There are 6 different computer modules all with separate codes (only 5 modules on Euro-spec cars). You need to check/reset codes on all the modules.

Code 11 pin 4 we discusses before that this is not related - air injection system, air solenoid. Thanks

What is your opinion to go for first - coils, fuel pumps, catalytic converter, EZL??? Thanks

Fuel pumps and catalysts will USUALLY not cause misfiring, just a lack of power. I'd check the ignition items first.

I don't think I've ever heard of an EZL that was intermittent, where it worked some of the time and didn't other times, but I guess it's possible. That would be one of the last items I would change, if the problem is intermittent. I believe the typical EZL failure causes a permanent failure of signal to one, or both, coils (killing 4 or 8 cylinders).

Thank you all. Very useful info to me. Will post update.

Fast question: are the 2 coils the same part numbers? Can i buy just 1 in order to check both? Do you know the correct part # please ? My car is 500E 1993 thanks

No, the coils are different part numbers... Bosch 00086 and 00087 for the aftermarket ones.

:mushroom:

I removed one of them. It is different part number 000158 5703 and it doesn t look well - padded. By the way - i removed the headlight first... Is it the correct MB # ?

I believe that is correct. That's what came out of my 95 E420. The epc lists the Zundspule as an option. Your other coil, mounted on the side of the ABS platform towards the engine, should be 000 158 58 03.

I don't want to lead you down the wrong path, but my cats are clogged and it did have a hiccup at idle every few seconds. If you have a vacuum gauge, you might want to follow the troubleshooting steps I recently took with the benevolent help of the forum members here--especially Col. Klink. It's a cheap test.

The part# has been superseded in the last 20 years

But NOS coils with that # will work but may be old stock

Thanks, i ordered Bosch, paid 250$ CAD shipped and waiting for them. Will let you know after the installation.

Just a quick FYI of completely useless knowledge, but maybe other people are fascinated by this kind of thing too. The non Bob Bosch coils that are sometimes seen on these cars are made by the company May & Christie, a large German transformer company. Lots of light ballasts and the like. That's their tiny logo on the extreme lower left of those coils in the photos. BTW, "zundspule" literally means "spark spool" / spark coil. There. Now you know. How can your life ever be the same again?

Today I received Bosch 00087 in box # 0 221 502 435 - 8SE. Can you please confirm to me this Bosch correspond to which 000 158 ... number ?
Thanks

Bosch 0087 = 0 221 502 435 a/k/a 000 158 57 03 (mounts under ABS platform closest to left fender).

Bosch 0086 = 0 221 502 433 a/k/a 000 158 58 03 (mounts on inner side of ABS platform, closest to engine).

UPDATE: My symptoms are gone after replacing the original coils with Bosch 00086 & 00087. It turned to be the engine side coil failed. Anyways my beast just woke up and now it runs great! Now - time for oil change, my favourite Pentosin 5w40. All the best!

Congratulations on finding a fix - and thanks for posting the update. It's very helpful for people like me who are trying to learn as much as possible about these cars. In too many threads someone presents a problem and solutions are proposed but we never know if/how the problem was solved.

I wish I could say that news coils solved my idle hiccup, but it was just another part on the long list of parts I replaced. It's getting time to throw in the towel and take it to the dealer for an SDS scan.
