Oh well, sometimes all off a sudden dreams come true. Sourced a nice package which shall be delivered soon, main items included will be a AMG LH and EZL module and in case it doesn't get lost between all the packing a nice low milege 6.0 AMG M119. Will keep you posted as things progress. Also talked to Bernard since i want to get some tweaks done to it prior installation...
Further I decided to throw the Mopf bonnet, headlights, clear corners, trunk lid and monochrome tail lights over board and put it back into its original look, including the bumpers and panels in 7700 alto gray. Same time the plastic fender will be installed also will keep the rims (centers repainted in 7700 alto gray matt) and brakes though.

Congrats with the 6.0 AMG engine and other goodies!:thumbsup2:

...but those plastic fenders, that's not original - you don't need them do you?...:whistling2:

Congrats on the score! Can you please post a photo of the AMG HWA-numbered EZL? I've never even seen one.

He He...I understand. :D

I guess the RH fender at Garage van de Velde is still available, but as we spoke about earlier, the LH fender is just as non-existing.

Here some photos of the collected AMG parts to convert my car to a 6.0. I will remove the heads and replace valve stem seals all the timing chain and guides, oil pump, connecting rod/main bearings as well as the oil pan (engine came out of a W140). Since I got it together with the AMG modified transmission I will swap over the valve body to my newly overhauled one. As soon I start I will post photos here...
Only thing I m missing now is the E60 stabilizer bar and the AMG springs/shocks. Hopefully will find them sooner or later too!
To have all information suitable to the car, the new engine number and code 957 got already documented in the vehicle data card.
Also did some research with the Manufacturer and got the exact date of the engine conversion 19.07.1994

SWEEET! Congrats on scoring a full AMG 6.0 setup. :D :D

FYI, the EZL shown in the photo is not an AMG-specific unit, that is the standard 5.0 EZL used on 1994-up (USA model year, facelift) E500's. The 6.0 motor runs just fine with the 5.0 EZL, I think all of the tuners (RENNtech, Brabus, etc) used the 5.0 EZL on their 6.0 cars. Speculation is that the AMG E60 EZL has a bit less timing advance. I've never seen a Siemens E60 EZL, only Bosch (click here for photo).

:v8:

Yes indeed it is a 5.0 EZL. The mystery behind is the following : the rare AMG EZL have a 3 degree retarded ignition mapping compared to the 5.0. On cars which have been converted after delivery the stock EZL was used in conjunction with the nbr 3 plug, which retards ignition by 3 degrees and is therefore the same as the 6.0 AMG EZL. This means with this 5.0 EZL equipped 6.0 cars you have the possibility to tune the ignition slightly by using the standard trim plug . Must try it once it runes with 100 octane fuel. This is also possibly the reason why the AMG EZL are so rare since mostly the standard 5.0 was used, detuned with the nbr 3 trim plug. The whole info is actually hidden in the AMG SL 500 6.0 workshop manual!

During my recent stay I have started to install the wavetrack unit into the 2.65 diff, also received the AMG speedo from a overhaul and adaptation to the 2.66 diff back from VDO. Mostly I worked on my 2.5-16, got it running and installed back the interior. Further I received the tailor made car covers for the evos from Swiss company Corval. I let them stitch the classic Mercedes-Benz Crest and evolution logo onto the bonnet area of the cover.

Here some photos of the 2.5-16 and the evos... The 2.5-16 received a complete restauration including a engine overhaul and transmission swap from auto- to the much more suitable getrag dogleg with lightweight flywheel, evo2 intake cam and throttle body.

Strangely the photos are partially upside down even so I see them in the right way in my computer album. Sorry for that

More news to spread! Always missed one "Sonderausstattung" in my car, the electric adjustable steering column. Recently got a complete kit including the correct wiring for memory seats. Also ordered the steering column jacket and the small crescent shaped cover atop of it new.

That will be a great add, Rouven! :-)

I find the telescopic steering column as a useful feature, and I am also upgrading to complete memory package; dual memory seats and memory steering column (should like that the mirrors was included too). The EPC list only one el.motor for the telescopic steering column for the .036, which means it has the memory function as standard. For what I know it may apply for all 124s, or any MBs of that time period. But for those having the telescopic steering column in their .036 and plan on a memory upgrade, you just have to replace the switch in the steering column cover, the el.motor and column itself is ready.

-a-

The difference is in the wiring. If you have memory it goes to the seat control module under the drivers seat and to the fuse box. If there is no memory, the wiring is connected to the SA sockets under the left side foot rest and the fuse box.

The switch differs also only in the wiring (length and socket)

Received today the new pre-facelift lenses and 3rd brake light unit. The base plate hasn't arrived yet. Further I m searching for a pre-facelift bonnet and trunk lid.

Yes, would be interested, can you send me a pm with the part numbers on the vacuum pump and control unit, further if you have a vin of the vehicle where it came from plus your asking price?

Just took delivery of the new body side engine wiring harness, will install it during the 6.0 conversion. It's quite a bunch of cables and run also into the interior as it seems.

Was digging in my old photo files and found some more pictures about the front brake conversion, maybe it is of interest for the one or the other. You can see the modified splash shield (i have early style LCA's), the splash shield needed only a little fine tuning to clear the rotor, and cutting in the caliper area, the small spacer washers to level the caliper t the rotor, something around 2mm thick;

wow..love that brake conversion...is it a "direct" fit.?like....no brackets to mount the caliper?

Hi Stefan, they are a almost direct fit as long they come from the R171 pre facelift SLK55 (340mm disc) or W209 CLK63 (360mm disc). Disadvantage are the crazy expensive two piece rotors which are considerably lighter than full steel ones.
You need further a set of custom brake lines and you have to grind off some meat of the arm for the steering end lock thing. If you watch the photo of the hub and splash shield you can see it I the right lower area of the photo. Also the bespoke 2mm something washers to center disc and caliper. Other than that all fits.

As it looks in this picture the dead stop was cut? Looks like a cutter disk on that grinder. That would be a dangerous hack! I have just grinder off as less as possible with a gap of a few 10ths of a millimeter.
The calipers für well with the factory brackets when leveled and the setup works well. Not like any disc/caliper combination with some made brakets. At least for my self I trust this setup when doing speeds in excess of 155mph.

Dave I just went through the photo documentation on your great site and I just found why my installation went considerably easier and was no way such a hack as in the case documented.
The brakes installed there are the 340mm where the whole caliper assembly sits in a smaller radius on the steering knuckle thus interfering way more than on the 360mm setup what I used!
They really had to cut the dead stop and modify the brake fluid feed, where for me only some trimming and no relocation of the feed line was necessary. Since the whole caliper thing sits on a greater radius!

BTW, what rear brakes did you use with the 6-pot fronts?

:watermelon:

Pls read my amendment above, it explains our different few/experience!
Still not a direct bolt but doable for even a medium skilled tech guy and most and for all safe to use!
First I had the facelift e500 300mm brakes in the rear and then swapped to the SLK 330mm lay out.
The brakes where already excellent with the facelift rears, excellent deceleration on high speeds or twisty country roads and spirited driving. In a normal speed range and daily driving not really noticeable.
I haven't really driven the car since I upgraded to the SLK rears.

by bolt on..i mean "NO BRACKETS"....:)

but minor mods to make room for the caliper and disc..that is not a major mod i think.
its totally different to have to start making brackets and measuring stuff to get the caliper to fit.

Today my brother received for me the package send from lowman (Stefan) with the complete factory IR locking system. I installed a aftermarket remote when I got the car but was never happy with it. No I got the chance for a complete original system including the complete wiring. Instead of making a hole for the rear IR receiver in the rear center panel, I think about to integrate it in the housing of the 3rd brake light. Let's see if this can be done in a proper way.
Also tested today the electronic speedo in my W123 successfully.

wow..thats good to see that it arrived safely .
Cheers..really hope it met your expectations.Do think you got it for a nice price too when i really think about it :)but thats allright :)thanx for the deal mate :)

So, I took a few days off and went back home. Finally got time to assemble the 2.65 diff with all new bearings and the wavetrac lsd. I was lucky to have some spare adjustment spacers for the side covers, many sizes not available anymore! Got the pinion gear pre load, pinion to Crown wheel play and housing pre loading nicely dialed in after changing spacers a few times. Filled it with Castrol 75W140. If I have time during the upcoming weekend I even might install it.

Retrofitted today in the afternoon the electric steering column which I had purchased from eBay as a complete kit. Install went on quite smooth, happy to have this long desired option in my car now. Was the only thing I was missing - now not anymore. Only one more feature is waiting for installation is the original IR remote system from lowman aka Stefan

Some new update, not related to the E but to 500!
My wife's daily driver and weekends boat puller the GMC Envoy continoued to create one problem after another. After fixing one thing something else went out - so it was time to part from it. As a replacement I found a very nice ML500 of the W163 series, not my favourite but as for the price, it's absolutely clean condition and full dealer history since day 1 I couldn't resist to buy it. It just reached 100k kilometres and was always kept garaged. Some specs: brilliant silver exterior, black leather interior, factory tinting on rear windows, comand with CD changer, bose sound system and telephone hands free, seat heaters etc.. I had just retrofitted an original trailer hitch and replaced the crankshaft position sensor since it was still the early, fault prone version. Also ordered a new coolant tank since they are also prone to crack/leak. Soon I will carry out a preventive transmission flushing and the addition of a Bluetooth dongle for the audio system and a rear view camera.

Well Rouven after a few years in Kuwait and spending too much time with your nomad friends you now have WIVES! :D

Got today another 2.65 diff (current is 2.24 with increased locking ratio/higher friction disc pre-load) for my 123 and started already to dismantle it to install the 2nd wavetrac unit from the group buy. In the coming weeks I will post some info about the change of diff bearings and setting of pinion gear bearing friction, gear and housing pre-load. It applies in the same way to the 034/036 diffs too.
Also some photos of my 123 sleeper from a photo shoot earlier this year.

Here a YouTube video of the same day, no brake pressed just WOT launched. 722.6/2.24 diff

Something also to notice there: the car doesn't dip in the rear due to the alloy 126 axle anti dive mechanism, stays almost level under breaking and acceleration

A few days later of haven taken this pic we change the front corners lights for a OEM ones. The ones on the pics aren´t OEM.
I order to mercedes Classic all the chromes of the car (I keep them like chrome, no black painted), all lights new, all rubbers, etc.

So, the new diff for the W123 is about to be finished. Installed today the whole gear set into the housing and adjusted all to spec. Last step will be a new layer of paint and a Castrol 75W140 oil filling

Make sure to use gear oil without friction modifiers, per the WaveTrac instructions. This is not easy to find, at least in USA; almost all gear oils are "compatible with most limited-slip differentials" which means they have friction modifiers. I used Motul Gear 300 in mine:

https://www.motul.com/my/en/products/oils-lubricants/gear-300-75w90

Same applies to Quaife and any other ATB/Gleason-Torsen diff without a clutch pack...

Thx! will look at the specification sheet of the Castrol oil. Otherwise I will get some cans of the Motul you recommended from my Motul dealer back in Germany next week.

UPDATE , the Castrol 75W140 has the unwanted friction modifiers. Will go with the Motul...

UPDATE 2, diff is prepped for painting tomorrow
