Whereas I bought my first Mercedes in 2010 and joined this forum shortly thereafter, my family is directly intertwined with the brand for over 80+ years in the Dominican Republic, where I was born and raised. At one point in the 1980's, my country was considered in the Top 5 in the world as to the most amount of MB's per capita, outside a handful of oil-rich countries...

As for the idea on this thread, we all have been collecting and/or buying stuff for years on the brand and image, so I figured I would start off a new thread that we can all contribute to show what we got!?! Although I know this first post is a bit much in what I am showing (off), I wanted to share it with the forum as I am not on social media and believe it was a case of going to extremes to build a unique 1/18 die cast collection I housed at my office. I am into family, work, cars and God, so I spent some of the dispensable income on toys since I could never really own the real things! Once you have a few models, you kinda start searching for unique, different stuff that is a challenge to get.

So - here we go. I decided that I wanted a 1/18 scale car hauler when I ran into a vendor in Croatia (or was it Czech Republic?) back in 2014. He was the only person in the world building them, and to order. So, I wanted mine in neutral colors that would feature gray, black, white and some colors here and there, and with my last name in the license plate to truly personalize my dang trailer! Below are pics of what he sent me during the build process from scratch (although not all pics sent to me, obviously):



At the time, the only "big truck" sold on the market was the MB Actros, which he was aware of it, so he sent me these pics of the completed trailer with his models and figures, which is just.. elfin' cool, no?





I had the trailer, but now I had to hunt for the Mercedes Actros truck in 1/18 scale. I found it, but as the only one for sale in the world at the time (on eBay), it featured something like 10+ lights that worked when plugging a 9v, so it unequivocally remains as the most expensive model I have ever bought since I had no alternative, but.. damn.




The sheer size of this thing with the truck and tractor, was simply a sight to be seen - almost too big and I had to compromise on how to display it...






At the time, I felt that I needed to represent the brands of the cars I drove, so I bought what I thought (!?!) was equal models of these cars - eye candy and then some





Btw, the large Porsche Hauler is an MB as well, actually...

So - anyone else wants to share any COOL MB Stuff or what?

Cool stuff doesn’t have to be big, or expensive, or original… I take pride in this portion of my MB 1/64 cars (have many other brands) that vary in years and obviously who produced them, but cool to look at. The two 500’s pictured are actual pre-production prototypes I was able to snag from Macau and are not riveted. Anyone see one they like?

When my car was blue, I bought this little 1/43 scale Brabus version:




It then joined the other 1/43 scale version of my real cars (they don't really make a black 1/43 400i, so this dark green works just fine):



Then these are the 1/18 scale of the same cars (cannot locate a blue QP that size as they're simply not available):



And although Hot Wheels came out with the 500s, they were at first only black or silver - so I jumped at the white ones when I first saw them and then, customize it (the 1/18 white one above also will be made to look the real car, I just have to find a good customizer)!

In the 1/18 collection I amassed 10+ years ago, which was stolen by a close, former friend - although it mostly consisted of European stuff, there was a heavy influence of Porsches and BMW’s since I owned several of them at the time…

Fast forward earlier this year when I asked myself if I could do it all over again, what would I be sure to include?!?

Given that I’m on my second 500e, I decided to have a go on some good ol’ Mercedes Benzes… black ones to start, with an AMG twist. Hope you like:

Of course they don’t sell a W123 Estate AMG, so you kinda have to source the Pentas and be fortunate enough to locate a spoiler (which won’t fit very well), but the intent was there to replicate one of my all-time favorite MB’s (and previous pics above will attest to my liking of station wagons)!

But once I saw the variety of models out there nowadays vs. my previous collection, I couldn’t just stop (right away, anyway) until I had me a few really cool ones.

This 190, for example, came with the Pentas already and just friggin’ beautiful. The R107 SL - if I remember correctly, these AMG ones were such hot commodity back then that Michael Schumacher owned one.

Of course, W124’s are being represented and… it’s no small or easy task to source these without an all out bank heist attempt…

Funny that you posted these this morning. Just yesterday I sold about 20 of my 1/18 collection to a local antique dealer. I had nowhere to display them. In the course of cleaning out I hand cleaned the remaining 100 or so I have left and made wooden platforms for them. Kept all my cool Mercedes of course.

You boys have nice collections. I have just a couple but found no room in my home to display little cars so I stopped before it became an obsession.

I’m still a fan of the 111/220-250 coupe / convertible. It brings back fond memories since I once owned a 1964-220SEb coupe. Mine was a white/blk w/ a 4 speed on the floor and had the Euro headlights straight from Germany via 10+ years in my friend’s warehouse under a stack of empty boxes but with a new battery some fresh gas and some ether starter spray it started immediately. I drove it home (about 10 miles) that day on rotten tires and lost most of the tread.

After I went thru the brakes and put new Michelin tires on it, it was a great driver. It always ran great but needed a new interior that I couldn’t afford so I regretfully sold it. I still miss it after 30 years or so.

Drew - what did you sell?!? I have them in my office and have run out of room myself -but have managed to squeeze a few hundred 1/18’s again in this go around... I’m on vacay for the first time all year so it’s nice to share stuff and will post more later.

I sold some of the low-end examples where the detail wasn't great, or the car had become boring. An example such as a modern Lamborghini Muciallago or some American muscle cars. A physical ailment limited activity for some years. Collecting and customizing these die cast cars provided a good bit of enjoyment so I indulged when they were cheap.

I have a 7-inch foundation wall the perimeter of the office perfect for display. The others were taking up space needed for real car parts, so they had to go.

I am also a "collector of sorts" 1:18 Mercedes Benz (only) diecast, and have over the years accumulated about 120+ of various models (no repeats) mostly in silver color. I have run out of display space and most of these are bubble wrapped in storage cartons ... hopefully I can display them in a future "retirement home/garage" ...

I have a mini collection behind my desk on the wall, mostly 1:43 - but one 1:18. I try to get a miniature for every Benz I own or have owned

Here's the whole setup - an IKEA shelf and framed is a trunk star from a 1986 300SDL that I dismantled a few years ago


From the beginning:
- black R129 (SL500)
- astral silver W126 (560SEL)
- iridium silver W220 (S430)
- silver-ish W204 (C300); my wife is still mad we sold this. It was a 2009 and I had bought new from dealer for her


And part two:
- champagne colored W221 (S550)
- white X166 (GL550); my wife's current car. Love this one!
- 199 blue/black W126 coupe (560SEC). This was a fun car
- white C216 (CL63 AMG). Sold this a year or so ago. Fun car - but ABC suspension is pricey and I prefer the older cars


And last - but not least!

It's the only 1:18, but it's also my favorite car of all time
The black W124 (model is 300E, but looks just like my 300D)

There is always some type of justification and/or reasoning behind our choices - whether buying small things or big ones… and the same holds true on why we do certain things, no?

For me, I have always placed the MB 600 Grosser as a dream car due to its looks, history, and specs - among many other reasons. Collecting these models allows me to vicariously pretend as if I could own any number of these cars, which is only limited by space, budgets, and desire.

My dad has always loved the W111 and if I had money to burn, I would buy him one. Of course, a 3.5 convertible these days normally exceeds $250K!

I display my models via Carney Plastic displays, so I always have to think about a suitable “companion” to each model I purchase. Because I “had to have” the Grosser, I went ahead and also got the W111 with the removable top - both in black.

I may have posted some of these before in my Owner’s Thread, maybe. But here are some of the ones I previously owned that I had a close friend keep for me when I lost my previous law firm/office - long effin’ story but… 5 years later, still somewhat surprised I lost at 20+ friendship over his greed in keeping 300+ 1/18 scale models when he refused to acknowledge him keeping them for me vs. “giving them away”!?! Sucks… but why I have built up this new collection this past year.

Some of these are worth a pretty penny these days. I had a few custom made and also modified some myself - the pics below capture most of them.

I tried buying models of cars that I owned (or perhaps a family member and/or has had an impact of some sort).

The new collection is similar as I can’t change what I like as a preference, but less of a Porsche emphasis nowadays as I used to own a kinda well-known (real) 911 Turbo that I built. Hope you like and more to come!

I found this H0 (1:87) scale model of my car in MOPF 2 and Perlblau! Amazing that there was one made at all, Perlblau was a rare colour. It lived on my dash, I kept it of course when I sold the car. Here it’s posing on a 2 cl shot glass:

Great collection of videos! I especially liked the auto addiction video at I believe the Nuremberg Ring. It brought a lot of smiles and reminded not to think I’m Michael Schumacher if I ever get a chance to drive the ring. I’ll have to come back to this post and watch more videos.

BTW, The 2 AMG GTRs looked great also.

So, if there’s a w124 AMG coupe and a sedan, we need to also add the contemporary bigger brother equivalent to the collection - the extra widebody w126 SEC (different quality models around) and the Miami Vice Darth Vader machines!

And to round out these deep monoblock clad beauties, I sourced a custom made r129 with a removable hardtop. Supa cool…

Money no object - as many model collectors would want things to be - then I would include either one of these aggressive, but far more contemporary offerings by AMG (in black), if I could afford either one in real life, aside from the other cars in the stable...


The last pic is how this group of black AMG’s are organized in 1 case (out of 19) from the current collection I have acquired during the last few months... I have all the cases at my office and they serve as eye candy when I can distract myself from work ever present in the computer monitor!!!

So... I may have gotten a little overboard this past year in collecting close to 300 new 1/18 models, but - its made me very happy - in light of literally having an entire previous collection above stolen by a 'friend/brother' of 20+ years. Redemption, to a certain extent and the new ones aren't going anywhere. I will be happy to share more of those to the extent anyone wants to see them, as I am not on any social media.

So... if I modify my real cars, then why not see if I can modify this 1/18 500e, which is plain/fine for many - but not for me... especially the wheels!







With enough perseverance, I actually found on eBay (where I bought the vast majority of both collections, about 10 years apart) a set of 1/18 5 spoke wheels with turbo fans!!! I mean, what are the odds? So, I sent them along with the car to my modeler in Cali to see what he could do along with a handful of spare, optional side mirrors.

In particular, I wanted him to paint the turn signals at all 4 corners, the bumper inserts, lower grill, main front grill, replace mirrors, and wheel install with maybe painting the fans white. If he could "while he was it" kind-of-a-thing, remove the headlight wipers and paint a strip to also resemble the air vents on mine, it would be "nice".

Then - my mind was blown when he sent me these teaser pics:






This is how I got the car back and this fine gentleman/magician's skills are on full display - wow! Narbeh did more than what I asked (interior plaid - wha???), dechromed the model, additional trim being painted to dark gray, etc.. Suffice it to say that I have commissioned several more models and, in different scales, to him as I don't come across this type of personalization level and talent very often.

Everything I have ever obtained as a result of this 'hobby' has been from eBay, and many times, I have scoured different countries' eBays as some sellers have some wonderful gems that may go unnoticed if their 'market' is local. You essentially have to be patient and have persistence to attempt to source whatever you are looking for. I am still dumbstruck that I found a set of 5 spoke wheels that came with detachable turbo fans for my 500e... I mean, what are the odds?



There is an entire hobby/community where individuals gravitate towards a particular scale, era, brand of car, etc. I never got into that as I just like what I like, and lucked with an individual who sold customized models on eBay - out of CA - who then took in my personal projects... Like this one.

Money no object, a 1957 MB 300SL would be atop of anyone's list, right? So, I bought this model that came with an optional hardtop and its amazing.







In real life, I would only be interested in the racing derived/sporting Rudge knock off wheels - but, the problem is that a model of a 300SL convertible is not sold with the Rudge wheels... There are model racing versions of the coupe with them, and I contacted someone who sells them to see if I could buy a set just of the wheels, but instead told to purchase their very expensive models. So, you then have to get creative. I bought knock off 'ears' on eBay for like $10 off a cheap Burago/Maisto model. The model's wheels resemble the real deal but the hubcaps do not appeal to me.





The hubcaps came off the model's wheel, a suitable washer in size was glued, a decal made to look like the wheel had indentations/ridges was printed, the new 'ears' were glued, a small center decal placed to cover the center hole, and the result is a pretty cool 300SL with Rudge wheels:




Of course, the level of commitment is only paralleled to the level of talent coupled with imagination. There is of course, varying degrees - such as the custom 500e and the 300SL above - but then a simple swap of wheels takes a handful of minutes to glue them in from this:

May I ask if the 1957 300SL with the optional hard top pictured in your post, in 1:18 scale? I am interested in buying one in that scale ... hopefully silver in color ... or have it painted in silver .

If you go back to my post # 16 above, I have 6 versions of the SL on display boxes ... however 1 of them is a 300SL Gullwing which IMHO is better replaced with "your" 1957 300 SL with the hard top option.

I will look/search for a "locally based" modeler here in the Philippines, who can do the following "modifications" on the following:
a. my R107 ... fitting of the 16" 15 hole wheels. I have a spare diecast to take them for interchange.
b. my R113 ... fitting of the 14" Bundt wheels, but I need to look for a diecast that has these wheels.

I am yet to find a black 1/18 scale 997.1 (preferable a GT3 so I don't have to retrofit the rear bumper)

I never take for granted how fortunate I am these days, because although I am not special, the scars of yesteryear when things were completely upside down (for years) remain with me, even now as I continue to improve balance and harmony in my life... These little cars in my current collection surround me when I come to work every day and they do make me smile

I have now run completely out of room at my office, as I have several more interspersed within a couple of more spots in my office, but most of the pics below have an MB in there somewhere! Hope you enjoy and can post pics of any specific car you may want to see more of...

Seriously thou, I wanted to fit Bundt wheels on my W113, 16 inch 15 hole wheels for the R107 and something like a Bitchin Rides/Kindig Custom theme for the 300SL Roadster , currently looking for someone (here in Manila) that is experienced in doing these modification/conversions to 1:18 diecast cars.

There is an ebay.de seller that has 1:18 wheel and tire upgrades (in primer only?) that are "upgrades" but then he ONLY sells to EU countries only ... frustrating on my part
