Offered for sale is my 1992 500E.
VIN = WDBEA36E8NB522215
I've owned it since March 2001. Purchased from the collection of gentleman racer/turkey farmer Jim Matthews, with 139k at that time. It has been a daily driver forever, but recently I inherited another car. I no longer have garage space for the 500E and it's simply time to move on. I am advertising it only on this board because, more than anything else, I want it to go to a good home. Whether it stays on the road, becomes a project, or is parted out, is for the buyer to decide. It has served me and my family so well that it deserves to be handled with the respect that this community will afford it.
It drives well, and better if it is used every day. Recent maintenance items include new rotors/pads, trans pan gasket, an upper rad hose, and rear sway bar links in May, 2015; rear tires in Feb, 2015; a new blower assembly in Jan, 2016; new starter in Nov, 2015, and a new muffler in October 2015. For years, this car was maintained by Karl and Manfred Merkle in Indianapolis; both brothers are now retired, another reason for it to move on to a DIYer or someone with dependable help.
The photos show the car's issues, which are obvious and plentiful. The bent front bumper occurred some years ago when the car was on loan to one of my sons at IU in Bloomington. The interior is worn, as shown. The AC has slow but persistent leak(s), but it cools well enough when charged. A charge lasts for most of an Indiana AC season. If it seems low in the rear, that's because the SLS system was disabled years ago, when Karl/Manfred advised switching to conventional rear dampers rather than repairing the SLS.
I don't really have a price in mind, so please submit any questions/offers. The buyer (or for that matter, any board member) is welcome to a private tour of the Indianapolis shop of Chip Ganassi Racing, where I work (and where the photos were taken). From this shop, we run 4 IndyCars, including that of current champion Scott Dixon. We also run the factory Ford GT program from here, just back from winning the 24 hours of Lemans on the 50th anniversary of Ford's historic 1966 triumph. Most car guys find the shop irresistible, as do I.
