Speeding Ticket......Or Not.

Hello guys,
The last ticket I had was for an illegal left turn about two years ago. I do exceed the speed limit from time to time and I thought it would be interesting to know if anyone had successfully talked their way out of getting a speeding or not.
Thanks,
Gary

...it would be interesting to know if anyone had successfully talked their way out of getting a speeding or not.

I had just gotten my motorcycle license & was driving my Moto Guzzi 1000SP to work. There is mile long stretch of unimpeded highway, including a bridge crossing, after the last traffic light leaving town which would take me to my workplace.

After the light turned green, I hung back for a while watching the cars & trucks erratically jockey around for position. I felt myself getting boxed in & quickly decided I would be better off by placing as much open space between myself & them, so I hit my turn signal, hammered the throttle & blasted by about 5 vehicles...hit my turn signal and exited off the highway.

At the edge of Company property, a State trooper pulled me over, asked for my license and registration & went to his car. He then returned, said I just got my license...nice bike...never see any of those around. You know why I pulled you over? No. You were speeding! You could lose this new license right now for that.

I told him about the traffic pattern & the impending danger I felt by being close to it, both in front & behind me. I mentioned Safety Fast & did just what I needed to do to distance myself. I mentioned using my turn signals.

He agreed with everything I said. He said he watched me & I did a very good job. He let me go with a warning that motorcycles can be very unforgiving.

I think the trooper was at the end of his shift & just wanted to go home. I also believe he was a motorcycler, too.

With the 500E, I've been fortunate to safely ditch my pursuit on 3 very high (yet safely) speed occasions of which no amount of discussion would have been able to ameliorate a happy outcome on my behalf, or continued driving privileges. It's just plain hard to tell one is going well over 100mph in one of these cars without looking down at the speedometer!

(...and I still think 040 provides some modicum of stealthy cloaking contributing to my lucky evasiveness). :e500launch:

You can talk all you want, it comes down to if the ossifer feels like giving you a ticket or not, if he's met his quota for the month, if he doesn't like how you look, etc, etc.

Best thing is to avoid the conversation in the first place with countermeasures, however those will only reduce the conversations, not eliminate them. You still need to use common sense, and it won't prevent getting pulled over for stupid things like failure to yield (i.e., not coming to a complete and total stop at a stop sign or traffic light, even if there is no other vehicle or human being in a ten mile radius besides you and the cop).

Could you please elaborate on these? I'd really like to hear about these. They are probably even more interesting and compelling stories than the one about the motorcycle! (Which was very good itself!)

If you will tell your stories, I will tell you about my own pursuit!

Regards,
Eric
