Stalled out engine

1. I have a 1993/94 E-500 with 116K miles. Over the past 6-8 months the car has had a number of episodes when it stalled out (went into what is commonly referred to as “the limp home mode”). This occurs primarily when I have driven greater than 50 miles in a continuous stretch. I will be going at a rate of 70-80 mph and the car just loses all power with the engine continuing to run. Also, the ABS light comes on prior to or in conjunction with the loss of power. I can pull off the road, turn the car off, wait a few seconds, start the car up again and go on as if nothing happened. Unfortunately, 15-20 miles down the road, the same thing happens. On one or two occasion the check engine light has come on.
2. My mechanic has tried everything but is unable to tell me what is wrong or prevent this from occurring. Needless to say, it is frustrating and frightening.

If anyone can help me and my mechanics figure out this problem it would be greatly appreciated.

Has your wiring harness been replaced already? Have you had all the "common" maintenance stuff (wiring harness, eta, maf, etc)?

You need to check codes from all systems, but a wild guess is either the engine harness or the ETA. If either (or both) are original, that is very likely to be the cause of the problem.
