Sunroof won't full close unless I use the tilt function

The situation is as follows in my 1995 E500 Limited:

Sunroof opens without issue. but when I go to close it, it gets 90% of the way there and won't got last 10% or so.

However, if I then initiate opening the tilt function, it will fully close and then tilt up.

So, I can try to time the opening of the tilt to get the sunroof closed before the tilt initiates.

Also, if it is already tilted up, and i go to open the sunroof, the tilt will retract before the sunroof begins to open. Again, I can try to time it to get it fully closed at that point.

Has anyone experienced this before or have any suggestions?

I have not, but lets hope I don't ever. Is the cable original, have you studied the lifting arms or the tracks to see if there is any type of obstruction in there?

I don't know about the cable and haven't checked the lifting arms or tracks as it just happened today on the way home. I'm going to check this evening. But if there was an obstruction, I can't imagine how it would close perfectly fine when operated from the tilt position...

Sounds like something funky with the switch, or possibly the calibration where the motor assembly knows the roof is closed.

Had it been working fine, and suddenly acted up? Or has it always been this way since you bought the car?

It had been working fine without issue until today. Suddenly acted up. I’ll read the FSM procedure and report back tomorrow. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction (hopefully)
