Take out fuel tank from car

Hi.
Work in the 500e:
Now when I get out the fuel hose from tank to the fuel pump, and also the filter in tank, I see it’s a lot of small pieces of “junk” rust and garbage in the tank,
I rather get the tank out of the car, so I can clean it up.
Is it someone in the forum done this n job?
Best Regards Niklas

Once the hoses are disconnected from the bottom of the tank, the tank is easy to remove. Four nuts, 2 on each side, and it will wiggle out of the boot/trunk.

There are 3 hoses. The large hose in the center (fuel feed to pumps) and 2 small hoses on the left/driver side for fuel return & venting. ALL hoses must be removed, then the tank will come out.

Thanks for the pictures, will not be a hard work.
To clean up the fuel thank inside,
I will think real diesel fuel will be good?
Let the diesel stand in tank a for a couple a day’s, before draining it out.
What do you think about that?

I have found that unsweetened lemon flavored Kool-Aide is a cheap substitute for citric acid. The generic stuff is cheap and comes in little paper tubes that make it easy to store and dispense.

It’s what I use for cleaning my (Bosch) dishwasher and washing machine. Good in the ultrasonic cleaner mixed with warm water, too.

Tank now spotless inside, based on consumer-grade colonoscopy.
