Thermal Compound Paste

Is this more or less the correct product to use for the back of the EZL??

Seems like a good price.

Jeff

That paste is just fine. I have it on several cars of mine for a couple years now.

Jeff, the eBay link appears to be a small syringe, only 1g of paste, which is probably adequate for a computer processor/CPU. And they want roughly $3 per gram.

For an EZL, you'll need roughly 8g of paste, which may result in some excess squeeze-out to clean up after installation. I use these 14g tubes, one tube is enough for 1.5 or 2 applications on an EZL, depending how thick it's applied. Cost is less than $0.50 per gram. And, it's Made in USA:

Arctic Silver (2 Pack) Arctic Alumina 14 Gram Polysynthetic Ceramic Thermal Grease

:shocking:

These were my notes before

Tonight I got a small job done I've been meaning to do for a while. Applying fresh thermal paste to the EZL. The unit appears to be a replacement since someone before left a nut off and make a mess of the paste! It was hard as concrete, rough uneven surface and making near zero contact with the fender. This new paste should extend the life of the EZL but I'll be getting a spare anyway soon to have on the shelf. A very thin cellophane was also applied over the paste as the factory did. Some of the new paste squeezed out at the edges but at least I know it’s got 100% contact now :jono:

Just remember- this paste is to fill small gaps between the EZL and the inner fender sheetmetal to dissipate heat.

Aka, the fender sheetmetal dissipates the heat. Not the paste, the paste is a transfer mechanism.

Less is more. Dont pile it on! You want to fill gaps only and heat to pass through to the steel.
