MB Silicon Paste - the Holy Grail

One of my jobs is a Scuba Equipment Repair Technician. My dive shop uses an o-ring lubricant from the company linked below. IMHO the make the best on the market and I have used others. They company makes lubricants for many other applications automotive, marine, etc. While I have not used any of their other products, I would definitly try them based on my experience with their product that I use.

After multiple years without, has a home brew version of silikonpaste been concocted? I have a few pesky interior rattles I cannot get to quiet down.
Ian, you are looking for small bottle of 000-989-84-51, correct? Not the sunroof Gleitpaste? I've not yet seen a substitute for the small bottle.

So besides some interior vinyl and squeaks, rattles, etc, what is the silicone paste (not gleitpaste) used for?

Could someone make up two tables/matrices of what should go where on the car regardless of each lubricant's availability?

Something like:

Gleitpaste 0019894651
Silicone paste 0009898451
Napa Syl-Glide
Shin Etsu G30M
Rubber lubricant 0009893660

And one table/matrix showing what is designed specifically to be used on:
And a second table/matrix showing what could be used on a substitute basis:

- Sunroof tracks
- Door seals (trunk seals, hood seals)
- Door strikers/latches, hood and trunk strikers/latches
- Window felt tracks
- Window regulator contact points
- Interior places that creak (where sun visor touches front headliner
= where a pillar cover touches headliner
= where b pillar bottom plastic cover meets bottom of b pillar cover
= where b pillar cover touches headliner
= where c pillar cover touches headliner
= where front seat lower side covers touch side of seat bottom
= where door panels' black plastic pegs touch where they fit into the door skin's square holes
= where the door panels' arm rest bases touch the door panel where they mount
= where the door panels' storage pockets touch the door panel where they mount
= where the side wooden edges of the shifter console wood panel touch the inside walls of the center console
= where the front seat buckle (female portion) touch the plastic cover over it
= part where front and back seats butt part meets the backrest part (strip of cloth there for that purpose or not) touch each other
= sunroof motor gears
= antenna motor gears

There are two MB "pastes" that have a special place in my heart.

The first is the now-infamous MB "Gleitpaste" - the 'sliding paste' for the sunroof mechanism. The large can in the photos below is "da Gleit..." part number 001-989-46-51.

The second (small jar) is much lesser known - it's called MB "Silikonpaste" and it's an excellent lubricant for a number of operations. The part number for the Silicone Paste is 000-989-84-51, current MB list price of $72 for a 3.5-ounce jar.

This silicone paste is special stuff because it's the secret sauce that the "stealership weasels" use to eliminate squeaks, rattles and other noises from door cards, seals, seats, metal parts, and so forth. It is excellent for use on door strikers and pins, hinges and lube points. Some call it "Wunderpaste" and although pricey stuff, it is well worth the cost.

Any customer car that comes into an MB stealership service bay because of a complaint of squeaks and rattles ... gets a good dose of this Wunderpaste.

Cheers,
Gerry
This is the best. Is there any lower cost replacement such as Silicone grease or Mobie 1 synthetic grease?

thank you.

great information here! have you found any non-mercedes lower cost substitute grease products that we can use and get easily?

for example, is generic silicon paste the same?

I’ve used the Napa Syl-Glide for many years. It works well and hasn’t caused any problems that I’m aware of.
appreciate the information! Mercedes sunroof grease is crazy expensive but i guess its the best. I wonder what the grease really consists of. Is it special or is it just silicone grease?

from my research it seems its lithium based and Benz repackaged. still not 100% sure but i was searching around online and a guy in benz forum mentioned this with strong certainty.
@yao500e, the answer about the content in the MB silicon paste is probably in this thread already. Member @Lioninstreet did a good research on this back in 2018, it starts in post #63:

It's MB's "rubber lubricant" and is intended to alleviate squeaking and other friction-related noises on rubber seals. Applications could be sunroof-seals, Vario-roof seals on SLKs and SLs, and the like. It also helps keep rubber conditioned and flexible, though there are certainly other products for this that work well.

My problem with this lube is that it is expensive as I'll get out [$53 USD MSRP].

:flush:

Cheers,
Gerry

Is there an MSDS for this product? I've been trying to compare similar (appearing) lubes from some of ze other Germans.

I shared this thread with my son who is the lead mechanic on the Porsche 963 race cars. He has personally assembled the vast majority of the 963 Porsches running at this time.He uses Autol Top 2000 SUPER-LONGTIME FETT and swears by it. He worked at the Weisach development center in Germany as they developed the car and they had access to all of the best stuff. This is available for about 35 USD FOR 500 ml tube.

Where are you guys using this type of product exactly? Interior squeaks/rattles or?
Gerry described it in post #1 in this thread, bolded text below:
