I wanted to ask, if MB came out with a grease gun, specifically for door hinges?

Any info, would be highly appreciated.

the C126 has a grease fitting, it was just a standard nipple from Harbor Fraud. The w124 I do not see a nipple to add grease on my hinges.

The W126 models were, as far as I know, the last models that required a special cone-shaped needle/tip attachment for injecting grease into the door hinges. The 126 does NOT use a normal Zerk grease gun fitting.

This is what a 126 hinge looks like. Note the ball bearing grease point, which requires a pointed/cone/chain saw grease tip.

A standard Zerk grease tip WILL NOT work on this type of fitting, as it requires the ball bearing to be depressed inward for the grease to be injected.




the W124 DOES NOT have this type of grease point.

Here is what a Zerk fitting looks like, which is accommodates by the standard tip of most grease guns. Not present on the door hinges of the 124 or 126. Though they are all over the underside of my G-wagen!!

That grease fitting is not unique, is still a standard grease fitting but used much less, especially where available space or interference is the issue (is also known as "flush-type" grease fitting, German standard DIN 3405). You can still use a regular grease gun but you will need a "needle-nose" adapter. Here is an example:

Correct. Basically what I was saying. A cone-shaped adapter also works, which is what I use. Many people also use chain saw lubricators too.

The point I was trying to make was that the 124 does not have this type of grease fitting (Zerk or flush).

What viscosity of Oil should we use in the w124 hinges? I was going to run 0w-40 but need to check the MB recommended temp charts.

Also is synthetic oil advisable for the hinges? Again I was thinking of Redline with 10k miles change intervals. After all if your hinges dont work, well you cant drive at all.

The bigger question is - is a grease gun appropriate for the w124 chassis hinges at all? I think not.

Bear in mind as stated by others above already some models like the 126s had grease points on the hinges. W124s do not.

I dont use grease on w124 hinges. For starters its messy as frig and second It doesn't do any good slathering grease at the ends of the pins.

I currently use ATF for the hinges applied with a syringe. I'm sure Wurth would have decent lube products that could be applied by aerosol straw.

On a serious note the ATF in a shringe is a great garage tool. I use it for squeaky blower motor bushings, hood latches and hinges, door hinges & door lock latches etc. For the lock cylinders I use the VW dealer lock grease which is pretty much identical to the NLA MB shiz.

I wanted to thank all who replied to my "question" ... now to search for this particular grease gun fitting and also for a grease gun that is "smaller" than the regular "off the shelf" type.

You're welcome! I suggest look on EBay from your location to see what sellers ship to your country. At my end EBay shows me the ones that ship within USA. In the search box type "grease gun needle nose adapter". Another way is to visit your local tool stores, I am sure that they have what you are looking for. Driving your car to the store would be best because you can show them what you need and they would give you the right tools.

The OP didn't specify, but AFAIK Chicky doesn't own a 124... but he does own an R129. Would need clarification on the chassis in question here, because the needle thingy won't help a 124 hinge.

Thank you for the suggestions , but rather than ebay, I'll search Amazon. If I do find it there, I can arrange for it to be delivered to my freight forwarder in Irvine Calif, for consolidation into a shipping carton (with other items bought by me) sea freight to Manila.

It's been a long time, since we've communicated.

You're correct, that I only have an R129 and no W124 ... I just wanted to buy a grease gun with fittings that can also be used for other MB's, just in case for future use.
