• Hi Guest !

    Welcome to the 500Eboard forum.

Since its founding in late 2008, 500Eboard has become the leading resource on the Internet for all things related to the Mercedes-Benz 500E and E500. In recent years, we have also expanded to include the 400E and E420 models, which are directly related to the 500E/E500.

We invite you to browse and take advantage of the information and resources here on the site. If you find helpful information, please register for full membership, and you'll find even more resources available. Feel free to ask questions, and make liberal use of the "Search" function to find answers.

We hope you will become an active contributor to the community!

    Sincerely,
    500Eboard Management

Time for 500Eboard to take a Sabbatical?

It's hard to argue with conduct that causes volunteers to give up more time. I'm not surprised at all when folks appear and engage in the conduct mentioned. I did so Myself for some time. This happened because I was completely unfamiliar with "forums". I didn't use them. Apologies for those early instances. There are going to be others like me for sure as well as those that just abuse anything that's publicly available.
I think any one or all of your remedies would help. Thank you to Gerry and all the administrators for your time.

I don't see an issue if there is a discussion about an M119 engine with LH injection (for example, an ignition discussion on cap-rotor-insulator) that pertains to all models with close variants of this engine. It's quite easy to tack an R129 SL500 LH M119 question right onto existing discussions for pretty much anything that is M119-related, because it's likely been discussed already.

But someone with a 500SEL (W140) should be posting things specific to that chassis in the Off-Topic forum, not in the W124 forums. For example, the "Interior Topics" sub-forum, just isn't going to be relevant or proper to a discussion about the hinged door compartments found on early W140s. There are significant differences between the W140 (or R129) and the W124 even though they do share the same engine and very very similar transmissions.

And again, I don't see ANY problem with someone coming on here with a 1997 W210 E420 (ME-based M119) with questions. It just needs to be posted in the Off-Topic forum, NOT in the Engine forum.

+1 on being a culprit of some of these items on occasion and fully support the suggestions of @xfadmin to mitigate. We as longer time members can also help educate new members so this does not happen repeatedly.

Maybe something as simple as forcing members to complete full profile details when joining would help?

This subject had no car details on his profile. If he had - well, that minor detail "might" have been spotted sooner.

Also I feel strongly that all new members should be made read or brought to a "Missfiring 500E" thread because most of them come here because of that issue and unwittingly start the 44,822nd thread on the subject then all old grould has to be re-covered.

Keep up the great work mods!!

I concur on a complete profile, it has been discussed earlier - and why not the members first name, would be nice as well.:rugby: I don't understand the paranoia about publishing such info, if their living place and first name is so damn secret then make up something else, an alias.

I think we see an increasing change of culture among people as a result of the digital world and social media. I don't mean just a negative behaviour, but it seems like some people don't understand or care about how things are perceived in the public world. Any individual behind their keyboard can be anonymous and don't have to stand up face to face - eye to eye, for anything they publish. Or who cares..? yes who cares based on their mindset in a narrow world. Respect, trust, empathy, thruth, ignorance, false, lies - when and how do that work in the digital world - never, because it is always another option, and who cares..?

This "digital anonymity" has increased dramatically at my work over the later years due to a speedy global digitization. The IT-department pumps out new programs, new features, updates, replacements with minimal prior information. We use a lot of time to find out how things work, or intentionally should do, instead of doing our jobs. And training for users has cooked down to: "Ask your colleague."

/end of rant/ :oldster:
