Total Noob question wiper related

Washing the car this evening the windshield wiper has gotten stuck in the up position, it usually just over-cams and then returns to the operational position with a nudge.

Was it always supposed to lock in the up position and just never did, or is there a release to get it to return to normal?

Thanks in advance for the help.

If you mean lifting the wiper off the glass to clean the windshield... yes, it should latch in the up (off-the-glass) position. If it's difficult to snap back down, lubricate the latch mechanism (near the spring, inside the metal arm) and it should go up & down smoothly.

Thanks Dave!

You were spot on, as usual, one shot with a spray lube while over extending and it nudged back as normal.

Generally a little "push" should make it go back down from the locked "up" position. Be sure to use your wash rag/sponge on the wiper blade itself to clean any crap accumulate on it and expose the sharp edge of the rubber !

Hi Gerry,

The COTA parking lot was brutal with all of the wind and newly created parking areas. The powdered lime was stacked up like a light snow on the cars. The heat here in SA eats wiper blades at least annually, blade maintenance is mandatory.
