How to park wiper motor on headlights

I removed the headlight and gave the assembly to a body man to install. He switched the plug to the light with the plug top the wiper motor. When I got the car back and figured this out the wiper was parked in the vertical position. I tried cycling it multiple times and it wants to park in the same position. I tried replugging the headlight plug into the wiper motor, turning on the headlight and unplugging when the wiper was in the horizontal position thinking it might remember where it was previously parked. I switched the plugs back and when I turned the wiper on it parked in the vertical position again. Any suggestions?

Remove the wiper arms and reposition them correctly. Just remember to not force the arms onto the motor shafts (since they both have splines)

Thought about that. I was afraid that the wiper would go down instead of up as its first move and would strain the motor when it hit the bumper. The headlight is the drivers side headlight and the first move of the wiper is in the clockwise direction. I assume it will sense the resistance and change directions?

I recently did some refinish work on my 94 E320 Wagon. I also incorrectly reconnected the wiper and corner lamp plugs. Result was wiper now parks in wrong position. Thought condition could be corrected by repositioning wiper on shaft, but that did not work. Removed wiper motor and disassembled..... still could not fix. I believe assembly is permanently damaged by lamp voltage being applied. Lamp voltage results in motor turning in opposite direction, this then permanently damages "park contacts". I could not figure out a fix (and I'm pretty handy with a solder iron, needle nose pliers etc). Ended up buying a replacement wiper motor assembly--reinstalled correctly this time--works great.

Hope this helps.

Suspected that but was hoping for a fix. And I am a hazard with a soldering iron but I would attempt to fix if it was easy. Cannot believe mercedes has matching plugs. It was my fault for not marking the wiring harnesses when I removed.

JM, did you buy new or used? If new, do you happen to have the part number? Although mine is a 94. My local stealership quoted me $137 for the pass side headlight motor, as my wiper will cycle then stop in the vertical position applying constant power to the headlight washer fluid pump :-(

If anyone needs replacement motors, I have both of my old ones sitting in my garage from when I did a euro light update and removed the wipers - from a 1993 US 500E.
