Trasmision delay

Can anyone tell me if my 500e is to have the first gear or in 500e I guess 2nd gear hold when cold as my 190e did. I believe for cats to heat up.

Randy

500e's from the factory have 2nd gear start.

You can put a 420e valve body in the car to make it first gear start, I believe Stu Ritter said there was a factory mod in the service bulletins to make first gear start also.

Michael

Thats not what I'm referring to. I have a first gear electric mod in my car. What I was asking is like the 300e and 190e. When you first drive, say morning they hold first gear shift point to, (I believe ) heat up cats. Is the 500e also to do this in second as that is the gear they start in.

Randy

Yes, the 500E has a cold-upshift delay to heat the catalysts.

The delay can be quite annoying. I've dodged a couple bullets with mine, but I'm noticing reverse is taking longer to engage. I believe it just a matter of time before I am Flintsoning it in reverse.

Yes it can indeed! Right after I bought the E-420 I actually turned around with the intent on limping it back home thinking I had a trans failure of some kind on the first cooler morning when it shifted to 2nd and then suddenly didn't up shift again! Freaked me out till I found out it was SUPPOSED to hold in 2nd gear like that till the converter lit!
