Unidentified Spring

I found this spring in the corner of my garage about a year ago. I thought it might have been for the parking brake spring, above the driveshaft, but it's not. It could be from an Audi too. It definitely looks German. Any idea what it could be?

The C126 has a leather cover on the base of the seat that is held by the frame using a spring, which happens to be two per seat, and is more grey/black in color.

Mirror springs, the springs that hold your exterior rear view mirror in place on the base so they don't "flap", look a lot like this. And they're quite strong. However, the more I look at this the more it appears to be too long for a mirror spring.

How's about the tensioning spring on the parking brake cable mechanism that's under the car?

The first thing I checked was the parking brake spring. It's not it. It's not the mirror spring either. That is much shorter than 5" (attached). I looked under the seat base and I see the flap cover, but the springs holding it are not it either. Maybe it's something further under the seat and I can't see it.
