Upper Wiring Harness “How to” or “Gotchas”?

My harness arrived so am getting ready to install. I’ve searched across multiple forums and can’t locate a “how to”.

Does one exist?

My reading of this forum and others seems to advise the greatest challenge is the firewall.

Any advise of how to tackle this? One YouTuber advised cutting the old one near the firewall to ease removal. Sensible? Any downside?

Any other advise before I start?

Thanks as always!

Charlie

No need to cut anything. You just need to un-do the hinged, clamshell connector at the inner firewall that the harnesses go through. DON'T cut anything.

Have you checked my Top-End Refresh thread?

It's pretty straightforward. Just lay the new harness over the old one, and remove the old harness's connectors one by one, and replace with the new connectors. Honestly taking your time, it's perhaps a two-hour job.

Take photos of things if you need to -- it can help for installation, in case you forget or have doubts about anything. Take your time.

Note, per the attached TSB courtesy of the @gsxr, that the facelift cars have a DIFFERENT routing of the upper harness than the pre-facelift cars do.

Charlie, as Gerry noted above, it's a straightforward swap - take some photos of the firewall pass-through before you start, so you know how it's supposed to look. Additional photos of everything before you start is a good idea.

Don't cut anything on the old harness. These are going NLA and your old one may be worth a few bucks as a core to rebuild.

:shocking:

Those are NLA as I remember, so you may need to purchase a rebuilt one, or rebuild it yourself. Fortunately it is simpler than the upper harness and fairly easy to rebuild.

Yep, lower harness is NLA. You can either rebuild it yourself, or use the Kurth Classics rebuild kit to simplify the repair. Blue Ridge MB will rebuild for you if you don't want to go the DIY route.

:shocking:

Thank you all for the pointers.

Gerry, I did check out your Top End Refresh thread. Oh my! Who could have imagined such great engineering would be basically binned by poor wiring. For the want of a nail . . .
