Nice shape. $250 for both complete assemblies. Turn signals not included. I'd rather sell them as a pair.

Pickup in Connecticut preferred however, I can ship.

That's a good deal for someone who needs 'em.

You taking apart an E300 diesel, Jimbo? Looks like it has ASD?

:apl:

Correct Dave, 95' Diesel with 229K on it, we just took out the engine as the body was pretty rotten and beyond repair (Maine car) . Car ran and drove great too. 🙁

Need anything?

Awww, that's a bummer the tinworm got it. Can you post or PM the VIN?

Did you get the gas tank on that car? They are worth $$$ to E500E owners, as the tanks are the same size and NLA from MB.
OOOO, good point - the 90L tank is gold. Ditto for the trunk carpets, the left/rear/right pieces will fit the E500E (right needs trimming). @linjam was looking for a set a while back, ditto for @Rain? Nice upgrade for a long-range 034 too.

I sold the complete interior for more than I paid for the car !

It was excellent which is ironic as the outside was totally horrible.

FYI... fuel sending unit on that tank is standard W124 sedan. Nothing special. It's not the same as the yellow-top sending unit on the 036 tank. Put another way, although the E300 and E500E use the same size 90L tank, they use completely different sending units.

Don't throw out the tank, I'm sure someone would pick it up!

No sir, no plans to !!

I could ship I guess but it'll be more than what I want for it I bet. And more of a PITA to do all that.

Stay tuned. I need to clean it up inside and out to sell it next year. It'll be secure until then....

What are you doing with the engine out of the car?
The car is going to become scrap metal in a few days, engine (and tranny) are good tho. Wasn't hard to pull out either; not like the E420s M119.

I'd love for someone to take the 606...it has 229K on it.

The diesel inlet pipe will not accept the plastic gasoline funnel/guide...otherwise it should work just fine.

What's the deal with diesel fuel tanks on 500Es?
In the USA, the only 124's with 90L fuel tanks were the 036 and the diesel .131 chassis.

The 90L tank was not available as an option on anything else [edit: not available on any other 124 chassis in North America / USA].

I believe the 90L tank may have been available as an option in non-US countries.

The fuel tanks may be the same size however the inlets are different....the diesel is just open while the gas has the plastic vapor piece.

Doesn't look like the plastic piece can be fitted either...

The tank does have the working diesel fuel level sender in it still....anyone knows if it would work for gas?

The diesel fuel level sender from a 1995 E300 (90L tank) is identical to the standard gas level sender in 70L tanks. So it would be fine for a 300E, 400E, etc. But no help for an 036 which uses the shorter "yellow top" sending unit.

Jimbo, did you ever try fitting the plastic piece in the tank inlet pipe? P/N 169-470-00-29, about six bucks. AFAIK the only purpose is to prevent a larger-diameter fuel nozzle from being inserted, either leaded fuel or diesel. The EPC lists the same tank part number for both 036 and 131 but it does appear the original 131 tank was a different number, that was superceded.

:detective:

I looked to fit that $6 part into the diesel tank but there is no metal plate mount inside the filler for the 2 pins....so yeah, there are/were 2 distinctly different 90 liter tanks; at the filler and also with the level senders.

I guess its OK without the plastic piece at the mouth but perhaps some folks with OCD... this would keep them up at night.

So the diesel sender in a .036 tank will not work at all? or will it just read the level wrong?

So the diesel sender in a .036 tank will not work at all? or will it just read the level wrong?
The diesel (standard 70L) sender will physically fit in the 036 90L tank but will read the level slightly incorrectly with an 036 gauge. More importantly, the standard sender will not turn on the reserve light until there is only ~2.5 gallons remaining in a 90L tank. The proper 036 yellow-top sender will turn the reserve light on with ~3.5 gallons remaining.
