What Colour is this Paint?

Hello,

I've been trying to figure out the colour codes, it almost seems like Mercedes has an endless combination of black, black, grey colour codes.

Personally I really like a black (not too metallic) paint that can really be waxed up to shine.

For example, does anyone know the color code of this one?

It looks pretty black, but I'm not sure if it's the lighting or what, but also a very slight tint of blue.

Cheers

Hard to tell due to the angle of the photo but looks like 189 black opal.

Though sometimes 009 on a limited may look similar if it has faded or been over buffed, then photographed in certain angles.

Arnt is correct, that car is 009 Sapphire Black, which is a very dark blue metallic.

189 Black Opal was not used on any 124.036 chassis, AFAIK... that color was released after the .036 production ended. It was used on the W210 chassis.

Thanks a lot for identifying the colour!

While I really like it, I doubt that I will be able to find a tip-top condition E500 Limited in that colour.

Do you guys have any colour suggestions that is deep, dark, and black like it?

What about the 040 Black, would that be a nice one too? I've seen the 199 Pearl Black (Blue-Black) in some pictures, and it looks really faded out and more grey than black; just trying to avoid a colour that looks a little faded like it.

All Limiteds were either 744 Brilliant Silver, or 009 Sapphire Black. So, your chances of finding one in good condition are pretty decent, as I think over half the Limited were 009.

I've owned cars in all three 'black' colors (009, 040, and 199) and 009 is by far the best looking, in my opinion.

:tumble:

I have some close-up photos of a Limited in 009 taken at the Porsche Museum that I posted here several years back that should give some good idea how this color looks.

By the way, just wanted to thank everyone in the thread for identifying the colour, as well as educating me on other aspects of the car.

After looking for nearly a year, I've secured a fully loaded E500 Limited in 009, without much modification, and am very excited to receive it.

As a result, you'll probably see me hang around a little more often. :)

I'm always about OEM+, improving upon a car the way the factory would do it, and hope to learn more about possible mods and what not.

Cheers
