Windshield Wiper Not Operating

Hi guys

just noticed today that the windshield wiper does not operate in any stalk position

I’ve tried positions I, II and III, and pressing the stalk in for washers - all with no response

when in I position I hear a clicking sound coming from what seems like near the headlight switch

Having done some some searching I am going to check the relay first and if that is not the issue I’m guessing the stalk itself is faulty. But how do I ‘check’ the relay - do I just ‘fiddle’ with it?!

Hey EaZy, be sure to first check your fuse underhood.

There's no easy way to "check" the combination relay, but I've had these fail more than once. You can try thwacking it (<-- technical term) but in general the easy test is to swap it out with a different relay. They are relatively cheap to source used.

I’ve got the Relay out and noticed a crack in the solider joint - there are three relays inside and I’m not sure if this is the relay for the wiper but I’ll solider it up anyway - it appears to connect to the J pin

thanks gsxr - unfortunately, this is where I am at a severe disadvantage - the local market here is not set up like europe/states so it’s pretty hard to source anything for these cars used or new. What a world of pain I have entered, lol!

Well I solider it up and.......nothing

there is a quite loud tick tick tick sound from the relay box when i put the stalk I position, tick goes away in all other stalk positions

the stalk headlight high beam flash(pull towards you) also is not working, the push away high beam position works and so do the turn signals

On to plan B. Might be the stalk

Get a replacement relay and try that. Then the stalk.

I've had 1-2 relays fail over the years. Only one stalk.
