• Hi Guest !

    Welcome to the 500Eboard forum.

Since its founding in late 2008, 500Eboard has become the leading resource on the Internet for all things related to the Mercedes-Benz 500E and E500. In recent years, we have also expanded to include the 400E and E420 models, which are directly related to the 500E/E500.

We invite you to browse and take advantage of the information and resources here on the site. If you find helpful information, please register for full membership, and you'll find even more resources available. Feel free to ask questions, and make liberal use of the "Search" function to find answers.

We hope you will become an active contributor to the community!

    Sincerely,
    500Eboard Management

Excellent and welcome! Follow the OWNER format and provide lots of pics and a summary for not only us, but a historical record for you and those who may be prospective owners of your car at some point in the future. Welcome again!

I will do my best...

New member here. Proud new 500E owner on the map!

Welcome Mike! I worked at MB of Tampa ("Precision Motorcars" back then) from '82 through "99. Were you or any family or friends doing business there in those years? Had many great customers and friends...

Hey Klink! Back in those days we would only dream of owning a car at Precision Motorcars. Around '97-'99 we would pass by at night on the weekends and check out what new toys were out on the used car side. Back then I was still just a 20 year old kid, every time we drove by and saw something cool up on the famous ramp out front we would stop by and check it out. Oh man, going down memory lane here.. those were the days. We didn't have much money but we did have some fun times..

I wish I could figure out how to edit my listing. It still shows my 1993 that I sold several years ago. I'd like to update it to show my Red 1994 and Black 1992.

See post #102 above.... hopefully Glen still has access to delete old stuff?

Ken,
I have admin access to the map but that doesn't allow me to edit it. All I can do is delete your entry...then you can create a new one with the correct info.
Go ahead and create a new one and then I'll delete your old one.

Thanks,
Glen

If people hadn't seen this already, we have a new map setup with the new forum, and it is accessible via the "Members map" link at the top of the screen. All of the old map related stuff above is no longer needed. The forum automatically logs people onto the map using Google Maps' API, and also via the IPstack service.

How do we disable this? I have no interest in my location being broadcast on a map.
I dunno, how accurate is your pin? My pin is about 3-4 miles from my actual location, so not that accurate.

Also, this is information that is already being gathered by many other sites as you travel around the Internet.

In fairness, I'll tell you what I'll do. I'll do some programming today and replace the Maps with an updated version. It will allow folks to opt in / opt out if they are concerned about privacy, and so that way you have control over it.

As I said though, anyone on the Internet pretty much can be triangulated in a general sense based on their IP address, WiFi network SSID (if picked up by Google Maps roving cars), or cell tower location (if using a mobile device).

Has the map been temporarily disabled? Screen shot below.

I'm not going to say exactly how close it is. But I will say that due to my rural location, I can count how many properties it is away on one hand.

I don't do FB, IG, or any of the other oversharing platforms. I don't have a picture on my Linkedin and have purposely omitted some details from that account. I greatly value being able to control how much of my life I share.

Heck, I used the PA Ez Pass transponders for years rather than the ones from VA because the privacy policy of my home state's program permitted the sharing of travel data with the police without a court order.

I dropped out of the national Lotus organization because they would not honor my request to not publish my contact info, including home address and phone.

I'm not trying to be a PITA, but there are too many fooked up people out there. The more I can control the distance between them and me, the better.

I don't do any of that crap, either, except for LinkedIn. That said, you do know it is common and simple for any web site out there who wants to, to get your location through your IP address. Just as the maps function here did. It's exceedingly simple.

If you need an additional layer of privacy and security, I HIGHLY recommend you use a VPN service, which will effectively hide your actual location from any site or code out there that tries to get it. VPN services are cheap and easy to use.

I'm being serious -- some relatively simple add-on code on this web site, combined with the free-to-anyone Google and IPstack mapping location services, was able to get your location. Anyone can do this.

If you use Google in any way, trust me, they already have more information about you than you know about yourself.

I have re-implemented the "Member Maps" feature from the previous forum, which is an "opt-in" feature -- meaning that you have to go to the map and put your own pin on it wherever you want to.

This not only preserves all of the maps that folks did from the old forum, but it is one less piece of code that I have to maintain on this site.

Special thanks to Glen for maintaining this Maps function, and being our interface with the ZeeMaps people.

You can access it via the "Members Map" button at the top navigation bar on any screen. If you haven't added a pin, feel free to do so (and for ace10, perhaps you can put your pin 40 or 50 miles away from where your actual location is...or perhaps at Mount Vernon or something). :stickpoke:

Cheers,
Gerry

Gerry, congrats on your move back to TX! One cold winter in MD and you were done, eh?

This is actually very cool, I see I have a member few blocks away from me, who knew ...

Any chance this will be implemented for C126 too (I understand that the map is for 500e owners only)?

Likely not, though I'm sure there more than a few members on the map who don't own E500Es......

TFTSNBN members receive a scarlet pin, though. :joke:

My "Location" is a random location within the zip code. Glad my swims in the buff did not get photographed this time :D

Eno: I see three separate pins for you. One in Qatar and 2 in Albania. Which ones should I remove?

Rain: I see two pins for you. Which one should I remove and what changes would you like made?

Please remove the one in Qatar.
My two 500E’s are in Albania.
Thank you for your time.

Ok. You now have one pin with both of your cars listed.
Also, I have changed the list format to alphabetical so it's easier to find your pin.

If you could remove both, that’d be great. Now that I think I know how to enter in info properly, I want to redo the pin location. Thanks!

@Glen
Glen, sorry to bother you again, but I cannot see my blu pin in Tirana, Albania when I open/click the map for my two 500E’s.
I can only see my blue pin when I do a filtered search.

That's correct. i removed the second pin because your one pin has both cars listed.

Description 1. 1992 500E Nautical Blue
2. 1992 500E Midnight Blue (facelift)
