Hello Everyone,

My name is Ben, I'm a Porsche, Audi enthusiast, and now, I am looking for my first Mercedes:nobmw:, a 500e.

I want to thank the board for all information listed here... i have been reading on this board for a very long time... so much information, it's like you guys want the entire world to own 500e's

If anyone knows one for sale please let me know.

Color preference: Blauschwartz, Silver, other colors considered. I want to be different so no Pearl Black Metallic.
Full Service History is a must
Style: 500e preferred. If i bought a E500 i would actually have the older-style hood retro-fitted... i know that is sacrilegious to some. (i am also looking for the über-rare 190 evo2, have seen a few for sale in Germany upwards of $80k)

I'm from the metropolitan NY area.

Thanks in advance!

Welcome aboard, Ben! I assume you are already checking out the "Cars for Sale" section of the forum. Every car we find gets listed in there.

Ben,
:welcome:

The "For Sale" ads on this forum are heads down the best place in the world to find cars for sale. Although the cars are often [seemingly] harshly critiqued/attacked here by forum members, you can be assured that folks are looking with a critical eye are (most of the time) doing a good job at ferreting out and explaining the inherent flaws and benefits that all cars have, and serve as a "reality check" against sellers who are pricing cars too high.

Also, when I have time I also try to look up cars in my database for their past history, which I've now been personally tracking for more than 10 years.

It is a wonderful service for sellers and buyers that the cars get identified by our eagle-eyed forum members and then posted here, with photos and VIN and any commentary captured for the future. A few sellers have gotten cranky and blown up here, but this forum has also saved a LOT of people a LOT of money in terms of not getting saddled with a car that did not live up to misleading photos or description posted by the seller.

So, glad you're finding the forum useful, and you will certainly - with patience - find the car you want.

Cheers,
Gerry

P.S. Finding an Evo 2 W201 here on this side of the pond is going to be a VERY difficult thing to do, particularly in decent condition. Most of these cars were used heavily, even the American market 2.3-16s. 90% of them have been either wrecked, are clapped out and worn, or modded beyond belief by ricers who have a bit more $$$. The good thing is that it should be fairly easy to import a car due to it being older than the 25-year restriction per US law.

Welcome Ben, Where are you in the tri-state area?

-thank you Gerry, i have been following everyone's comments and have used past posts to identify if a current prospect was viable. It has been invaluable to have such a record and people with so much knowledge posting. Having more "eyes" on a vehicle really helps and has saved me from 2 possible mistakes this month.

Thank you everyone! And i will be patient as you have suggested... i need the right vehicle, not the one right now.

It's too bad that a pearl black car is not on your list ... that color RULES !!

That said, two of the best bargains were just on here in recent weeks ... the Orazio car and the G-Man car. Both got snapped up.

Bzliteyear just scored the best deal I've seen in a long time by purchasing the G-Man car. Very well bought.

Cheers,
Gerry

"The G-Man" Car was definitely on my radar. About Pearl Black, I like the color... but my neighbor has that color.... and everyone i see in NY has that color... can't do it... i need another color.

I'm with you 100%, Ben. I owned a 199 (Pearl Black) E420 and currently own an 040 (Black) W210. Where we live (dusty farmland), it's too difficult to keep a black car clean. And, I think as 199 fades, it does not look as good. I bet 199 looked great w hen they were new, but after 20+ years, it doesn't hold up as well as other colors. Just my $0.02, don't want to get in a color war. As you will find in the Wiki, nearly 60% of all E500E's were this color, so it will impede your search quite a bit. Fortunately your second choice (silver) is the next most common color and you'll have a decent chance of finding one. Orazio's car sold a few weeks ago and that's the one I would have steered you towards. You'll likely need to budget mid-teens to get a nice one without too much deferred maintenace. Keep in mind the Honcho's warning that nearly every 500E on the market will probably need ~$5k in repairs to make it right. Nicer examples just delay that expense a bit.

I would at a minimum do some poking around that Imprerial Red/Black that just hit the market. It could end up being a decent driver with potential for better. Ask Glen...200k miles is nothing.

I agree. Depending on the maintenance by the PO, it could either be a great deal for an uber-rare color (one of two Imperials in USA), or it could be a money pit of deferred maintenance. Now, if it was me, I wouldn't care... I'd want the rare color combo (Imperial over black is one of my most favoritest, droool) and I'd be willing to dump the $$$ into it (spread over several years) to restore it.

I have to thank you guys and this board once again.... i was about to bid on this car until i remembered to check the VIN on this site..... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mercedes-Be...7e920aa04&item=171414956548&pt=US_Cars_Trucks

seems that this car has had its odometer rolled back!!

I have been actively looking for an EVO 2.... so i might be out of the "e500e" market for now... unless a steal comes up!

-Ben

It should be a slogan: "500E board: it covers your behind like a diaper!"
