Anyone got one in good nick with chrome strip intact free of dents, please??

Front fender? Have you checked with Tom Hanson at MBCC yet?

:apl:

Crap. Just the stainless trim, or the cladding too? That REALLY sucks!! I assume permanent NLA, btw... will be really tough to find a replacement strip that's not attached to a complete pair of fenders+cladding.

:runexe:

Tom said both chrome strip and cladding NLA.

Yes it would be crazy to pick up a whole fender just for the strip. I thought a good used cladding with the strip is a reasonable request no? [emoji2]

Problem will be finding cladding / strips available separately. can't recall the last time I've seen either for sale. Even complete fenders with cladding/strips are bloody rare.

:apl:

Last year, I bought the fenders, the cladding and the chrome strips on 2 separate orders. Lionel at the time found strips with no problem, but IIRC he got the right fender cladding piece at a dealership in Germany, not a usual supply depot. I have not seen them since. Looked at the standard 124 cladding I have and the engineering they did to get them to fit was pretty good. Perhaps with some heat you can use a standard w124 and go for it.

Does that mean insurance companies will be totaling cars because the parts are not available?
I don't think so. I didn't see this happen with the 300SEL 6.3 market. What it does mean is that the remaining cars, particularly the parts cars (and I'm saying, for the record, that any E500E worth $6K or less is essentially a rolling parts car), become more and more valuable over time. Particularly for these esoteric body parts like cladding that were made only for the E500E. For drivetrain parts and many interior systems and parts, generic W124 and M119 parts will work fine.

Some stuff is going to have to be adapted in the future from "pedestrian" W124 parts.

For a true, long-term .036 owner, having both an .034 and an .036 to tear down as parts cars, is seeming like a very very good idea....

MB Classic in Germany is showing zero parts found, which is not a good sign... although this is not as bad as part found but marked "not available".

Garnish mounding (stainless steel trim) for the front fender cladding is A1246982180 and A1246982280, left/right.

Both the plastic cladding pieces (A1246908940 and A1246909040) show as "not available"... likely permanent NLA. Louis may have scored the last ones available a few months ago.

Louis, just curious, did the cladding pieces come with the stainless moulding/trims? EPC shows they should have been included.

They were in separate bags with the clips so I am not certain, but know they were not attached as the cladding was ABS black and had to be painted. I have no doubt that they would come as ordered but do specifically remember separate bags for each strip and their clips.

Will give these guys a call tomorrow as its showing available in their system, right side only. But I'm not holding my breath.

If the separate bags did not have their own part numbers for the strips/clips, it was likely included with the black ABS as an assembly (per EPC). Your invoice also would have shown 4-6 part numbers instead of 2.

Heheh it would have to be an actual client discovery I would have remembered the fricken font style from the paperwork in 1993...
