ZF 8 speed swap??

This is also what I’m looking for the G320. Cause it’s running at 3000rpm at 60 m/h (100km/h) this is far away from fuel saving even more gently for engine
but I’m not sure if there is a space issue between the ZF gearbox the frame and transfer case, did someone any replacement such that on a G Klasse.

ZF 6-speed would be plenty... is there any real advantage to the 8-speed box? Which is smaller? Will it fit into a 124?

Also... is there any advantage over the 722.6 which is a pretty bulletproof box when built properly?

:apl:

I think the 8 speed is a much stronger box when compared to the ZF 6 spped. It's also super quick and is noted for being quicker than many DCT transmission which is obviously where the 722.6 fails.
The cons (and pros) is that it's fully electronic so you'll have to use a BMW shifter as there are no external shifting. But the controller also allows 55for a sequential manual shifter and clutch pedal if you wanted it.

Here's a converted E55K shifting quicker than any 55K could

Most recommended is the ZF 8HP 70,75,80 or higher this is 700Nm up to 800Nm output, as far I know there is also some of them up to 1000nm torque.
This gearbox is mostly in BMW installed and a lot of them is available aftermarket. And with a right adapter it fits under most cars and easy to set up with the software for your needs.

This company in Netherlands in Europe one Hour from my location is also specialized about transmission swapping, Mercedes W126 is one of those. Soon I will take my time and get in contact to figure out what is possible with G320. See link here Transmission swap.
You can also see some more car brands with transmission swap and they do have also pretty nice solutions for the shifter in the center console. I have seen on other sites which selling the adapter plates where you can get the steering wheel shifter too.

All in all there is lot of possibilities with this ZF 8HP transmissions there is a lot on sale. You can use it from off-road setup to racetrack setup.
For me personally is most important things fuel efficiency and engine gently setup to avoid wear and tear.

These guys have posted videos converting M113 and M104 engines to the ZF 8 speed. This transmission is supposed to be super fast and super strong. I'd be interested in getting thoughts on such a conversion.

I am actually investigating will most likely 8hp45 for my 1995 C36. My C36 is more of a well kept drivers car and not a museum collectors car so I thought I'd improve the transmission a bit. I cruise near 3000 rpm at 75 mph with the 722.3. and the shorter 1st 2nd and 3rd gears of the 8hp will definitely improve off the line acceleration a lot as well as allow me cruise 2000 range at 75 to 80 mph.

A friend of mine did 8hp45 on his 1997 e36 M3. He kept the M3 all stock and just did the 8hp45 with Turbolamik TCU and his car is a rocket now. Litterally lighting up the wheels all the time. Then on highway cruising his RPM is in the 2000s at 80 mph.

So, i am taking my time and working moving my C36 to 8hp45. Im pretty excited for this swap.

I'd be very interested in hearing about your progress. Please keep us updated.
yes. for sure i will. I was about to do a 722.6 from a CLS55 AMG but then the 8hp will be so much better overall.

the 2 most challenging thing in the swap: 1. custom driveshaft 2. custom transmission cross member mount.

These are the 2 things that I am trying to figure out.

8hp has actually proven to be one of the strongest, problem free transmission ever. even the modern new bmw M3 has moved to the 8hp76 transmission rather than DCT clutchless manual transmission. 8hp shifts faster and is more resilient!
