Was the Becker Mexico 2000 the standard radio in a 1991 500E?

My friend has a very nice 500E, and is looking to replace the RADIO 10 CD in it with the original. He does not have the original so is looking to buy. After checking the VIN number and checking codes and pricelists it seems like the standard radio that came with the car in 1991 was a Becker Mexico 2000. Anyone of you that can confirm that? No codes say anything about radio or audio so therefore i believe it had the stock basic radio.

He also says he has some kind of an original amplifier or something laying in the trunk....maybe that has something to do with the original radio that was in it at one point?

Depends where your friend is located and if his 500E is USA-spec, or Euro-spec.

Since there was no 1991 500E in USA, I'm assuming the car is in Europe somewhere, and I have no idea what the standard radio was... or if the Radio 10 will plug & play in it. Sorry!

Det er nordmenn her å ja:)

I don't believe it has the sound system.

Here are the codes for the car:

i cant find out what code 869 is tho... because the text above cant be correct! seems like a diesel engine for a W202.

Hi!

Are you sure that's the correct VIN?

072A - CLOTH BLUE
929 - NAUTIC BLUE METALLIC

Does that correspond with the car? I can't find out what the 869 code should be for a W124 series either.

Oh and by the way - maybe the car was made without a radio! The Swedish Mercedes importer always imported the cars without radio, and then retrofitted it back home. So many Swedish sold cars from that era (80's-90's) didn't have a radio option code, because it simply wasn't in the car off of the assembly line.

For instance, a 190E I owned years ago have these option codes regarding audio:

534 from 01.01.1963 to 30.11.1990 " ANTENNA, MECHANICALLY OPERATED, WITHOUT RADIO SET"

812 from 01.11.1974 REAR-MOUNTED LOUDSPEAKER

Yup, the VIN is correct. After looking around on mobile.de i see that many 91-92 models have the becker mexico 2000 radio so im pretty sure htats the correct for this one too.

I'm re-opening this thread as I'm wondering if anyone knows if a Mercedes Benz "Classic" radio could possibly be an original fitment to a 500E?

When I bought the car, some PO had fitted a crap single CD player, and the "Classic" was laying in the boot - so I re-installed it, not least to get a period look to the dash. Googling, it appears to be the Becker Be1150 - which I believe was fitted to some W124's.

This link also makes reference to this radio and the E500E:

http://underdoss.xyz/mercedes/merce...er-be1150-radio-r129-w124-w168-w140-w202.html

Its a Euro-spec car, originally (I'm led to believe) supplied to a French customer. The VIN is: 1240361B913271.

Any info, anyone?

I don't think so (but I am not 100% sure).
As VIN references include 810 (which is sond package), I would bet that standard radio for this unit would be 'Exquisit' one (as it is an European one)...
Others more knoledgable than me will help for sure, but I don't think 'Classic' was a standard equipment for E500Es.
