ADMIN EDIT: Click here for additional details on these replica Evo wheels.

Here is what the machine faced wheel will look like.

There are some images showing dust particles that got cleared over and some minor scuffs from loading and unloading the wheel from the CNC mill on the inner barrel of the lip.

The dust particles is something can’t be controlled 100% because after cutting the face the wheel develops a slight charge.

There are two machine style options this is the finer cut which replicates the OE wheel.

I will be inspecting every wheel and before they are shipped if there are imperfections an image will be sent to you.

If there are huge imperfections the wheels will not be shipped out or offered for sale.

The image below to me are acceptable. So let me know what you guys think knowing and expecting some minor imperfections.

FYI set is available for purchase.

Dust particles and minor scuffs from loading and unloading the wheel from the CNC mill should be better controlled. But that’s just me. For the price of the wheels, it might be ok for some people.

FWIW, both of my HRE wheels were free of any scuffs or blemishes, but HRE has a very strict policy for maintaining their finished product.

Yes this is the difference of outsource work using two vendors vs a big wheel production company where everything is done in house.

I am not a wheel manufacturer and these wheels were done using my local resource. This is why it’s a test set.

I agree with you completely about quality control.

If this was a product that I make in house then it’s a different question. To be honest selling wheels is not for me I prefer making exhaust kits, suspension kits, CNC parts etc.

I was simply attempting to offer a service for those who would want it nothing more.

On a side note if I’m charging $2000+ a wheel to do this then yes I can garantee the work to be top notch. That will pay for the equipment needed to get the job done in house.

I hear you. The fact that the wheels are available to begin with and at those prices is a huge win. So my hat’s off to you for even doing this. Maybe this set of wheels is an edge case, unless all sets have similar results.

Only one wheel had the dust flurries and marks the rest came out 100%

I just received notification that the manufacturer of the wheel will be offering this finish as an alternative option

So looks like this was a wasted exercise on my part.

OH NO!!! Sorry to hear that... very frustrating.

When you have details on the cost direct from the manufacturer, will you update the other thread?

I'm guessing other widths / offsets are not available, but have you inquired if they would consider making some? For example, 17x8.5 ET25? I know it would be tough getting a group buy for non-standard sizes as everyone would want something different, but wasn't sure if the mfr in Europe would even consider it.

I know I'm late to the party, but wondering if you have anymore or these wheels available? thanks

Up

For all of you that are wondering how the wheels will look, here is the result on my car.
Could not be happier with the result.
Thank you JC for putting this altogether, and dealing with grace on the small hic ups along the way.
I put Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+ sports on, and with the generous help from Capruff, got the correct Lug bolts and beautiful plain silver center caps.
Happy motoring all

Wow those look very nice!! Where did u order the lug bolts and center cap from? Do you need 39mm shank length with these wheels? Thanks

Here they are on my 190E 2.3-16

Normally I shy away from 17" on a 16V since the only 225/40/17 was the Hoosier A7/R7 with a treadwear of 40, until Continental came out with the Extreme Contact in 225/40/17 with a treadwear of 200

I was not comfortable with a 215/40/17 or 235/40/17

****IMPORTANT NOTE: THESE ARE THE REPLICAS OF THE EVOII AND ALTHOUGH THEY LOOKS THE SAME IN ALMOST EVERY WAY, IN MY APPLICATION TO MY 16V I WAS NOT ABLE TO USE THE FACTORY LUGS AS THEY WERE NOT LONG ENOUGH TO GET ME THE 6 TURNS IN SO I HAD TO FIND LONGER LUGS. THIS IS PROBABLY TRUE FOR THE 500E500 CARS. PLEASE DOUBLE CHECK YOUR APPLICATION.

Jeff

Jeff, from memory, the factory 40mm lug bolts don't normally get a full 6 turns with OE MB wheels either. I'll measure how far the lugs protrude from the back of factory wheels vs the Maxilite but I'm expecting them to be the same.

Stay tuned!
