Re: Mercedes E60 AMG LIMITED

More funny prices.

But to add, this has fake AMG bodykit and exhaust.

I am surprised that in this UK crippled Economy, someone wants to make a profit of more than 5 Times the cost !

Re: Mercedes E60 AMG LIMITED

That car at Frays Motor in post #81 has aftermarket Limited leather on the front seats where the quality on the pattern deviates quite much. Just compare with the door panels and the back seats. I have seen better than this.

The AMG gen II kit is not that bad IMO, but the rear bumper with the extended impact strip doesn't suite the 036 at all. They have done a good job on the rocker panel adaption.

Nice shine!

Re: Mercedes E60 AMG LIMITED

Can't believe MBworld would put this on show when it's fitted with non standard/stock bits. Those window deflectors and hood star missing....c'mon ! :apl::hammerhead:Obviously just got attracted with its low miles.

Re: Mercedes E60 AMG LIMITED

and wat do you think of the price of this E60? its not of the 1 of 12......
Most likely not one of the 12, but we'd need the VIN to confirm. Also, the AMG body kit is not necessarily fake, it is probably genuine.... just modified to fit the .036, and not correct for the .036... but that doesn't mean it's fake.

:grouphug:

Parts not produced by AMG.
+ No authentic HWA part number.
+ Parts not stated in AMG documentation.
= FAKE PARTS

Same way as:

W124 200E
+ 500 engine
+ 500 styling
= FAKE 500E

Its based on a W124 Mercedes...But its not a 500E

That is all true, but unless someone has seen this car in person and verified the AMG Gen2 kit is aftermarket/fake, we can't really say. It is possible to modify geniune AMG parts, which IMO does not count as "fake"... just incorrect for the 036.

I think the car looks great and I would love to own it, fake or not. It looks great and if it has an AMG-built 6L powerplant, I'd be happy. Now I just need a winning lottery ticket!

Really need to get the VIN on this one.

You're both right. I am contacting the seller requesting for both the VIN and proves on the authenticity of the AMG gen II kit. Let's see if they respond.

Good point Bing, they don't know how the car should actually look like..didn't even bother to check.
MB centres in Germany are not welcoming to any modified cars even from big tuners like BRABUS and Lorinser, let alone something like that

In my Email this morning to Freys Motors I said I was very familiar with the 124036 and a 2 car owner. I clearly asked for the authenticity on the AMG gen II kit and the VIN. Here is the reply from "Fries the Motors":

Hello Mr. Malmo

As stated in the advert the car is one of 126 in existence. This is the information that Mercedes Benz Brooklands (who have the car on display) have given me. There were 12 "originals" which have E60 printed on the datacard, these were taken straight off the production line by AMG. This is one of 126 that have undergone the same conversion by AMG albeit at a later stage. This is also a Limited so there will be less than 126 in existence. I hope this information helps. Were you interested in purchasing the car?

Kind Regards

Bill

A bit frustrating answer - or no answere to the two very simple questions. He has obviously no clue about this car type. I'll respond with a more detailed Email.

:hiding:

Arnt,

Its called SPIN...I am under the impression that he had this conversation before, and he found out that the car was not a Factory E60LTD (1of 12)...maybe he bought the car thinking it was such. No clue about the Body kit either.

Bill is clueless. 126 E60's were built (I think), of which 12 were E60 Limiteds (SA code 957+958).

Try asking for only the last 6 digits of the chassis number, sometimes they don't like giving the full VIN (no idea why) but the last 6 can be used to get info from the datacard.

:fish:

I thought the last E500's were built in late 1994/early 1995, like my E500 LTD that I have in UK
How can this be a 1996?

That's another typo. It had to be built in 1995 at the latest.

The very last of the W124 production did go into 1996 I believe, but did not include the .036 chassis.

:hornets:

Cabrios and perhaps some coupes from the 124 series were indeed produced well into calendar year 1996.

undergone the same conversion by AMG "albeit at a later stage"

There you go! Key words , "Later stage". Which means nada 957 code. He's answered Arnt's email like a bloody politician , recognising the 12 datacard proven LTDs as provenance but indirectly says it is a after factory conversion. Like most specialist dealers here they hate it when you know more than them.

I sent another friendly Email this afternoon with some guiding facts on the prod. numbers, prod. year and the AMG kits. I asked for the VIN and also about the aunthenticity of the AMG gen II kit. I also adressed the five equipment codes specific for this E60 AMG Limited:

009 Sapphire black - Mica
288 Grey Limited leather
732 Birds eye maple wood trim
957 E60 AMG model
958 Special Limited version

Let's hope he respond on Monday. :-)

Good catch. Likely a code 958 Limited that was sent to AMG for a 6.0L upgrade post-purchase... i.e., no code 957. It will be interesting to see what, if any, response Arnt gets.

Hello guys,

Below is the reply from Frays Motors today. The car is NOT one of the twelve E60 AMG Limiteds, but a converted E500 Limited. The EPC is still fucked up on my PC here at work, so I cannot check the VIN. It is a surplus digit in the VIN, the last "0" is probably a misprint. Code 288 is the grey pattern Limited leather, so it has changed from code 287A, someone to find out what that is. The front seat covers are aftermarket and not the best I have seen, while the rest is OE Limited leather. The 300kmh AMG faceplate is OE, can see that the PN is between 160 and 180 kmh marking.

Hello Mr Malmo,

Apologies for the late reply. The VIN is WDB124036 1C 2089130. Only the twelve cars have option codes 957 and 958. This car has the 958 code as well as the others. It does not have 288 but 287A.

I hope this helps.

Best Regards

Bill

Just noticed , trunk/boot not sitting correctly or have they just left if it a bit open ?

Oh and just to compare on the trunk badges, are either correctly placed? :stickpoke:

I guess the trunk lid is not properly locked. Here's an image of my Limited from behind for comparison, the car is wet BTW.
And the badge...I know, I know - it is not correct placed. :-)

VIN = WDB1240361C208913

Code 958 only (Limited), so the 6.0L and/or full E60 (i.e., including suspension) conversion came after delivery.

NOT one of 'The 12'.

Note the muppet's answer was purposely vague, yet again.

Dave,

It is obvious that the seller don't have much knowledge about the 036, and to his excuse I would say it is quit common around. And he has neither blew it up into the sky. In my previous email I commented the high overpricing, but no reply on that. Of course it is a good looking car, but the price is totally way off.

Btw, what is equipment code 287A?

Interior code 287 indicates Limited leather in Red color. See attached.

So on top of that the interior was possibly switched with another car... I notice that the driver seat and steering wheel is not in the condition of 27,000km..should be spot less at that mileage, while this one has a number of creases and the steering wheel is shiny...needs further investigation especially with no documentation of mileage.

This car sold for around 4.8 million yen at auction, that's about $50k USD. Had minor paint flaws and was graded pretty low for a car of this caliber and with very low mileage.

It blows my mind how high the asking prices are with these cars, especially considering the actual car cost. I'm am all for making a profit but I would call this being a little greedy.

The current asking price of £85k ($128k USD) is pure lunacy, IMO, for a car that is a Limited without the original interior, and is not one of the 12 true E60 Limiteds. Yes it's a very nice car with nice upgrades, but I don't see anything here to command that kind of premium. The Japan auction sale price of ~$50k USD is closer to reality, IMO.

+1 with what Dave said, plus the lack of Service history is concerning on a rare 6.0L ...parts are NLA and if it wasn't properly maintained or had deferred maintenance then you might be in for an unpleasant surprise !

Weird that I came across this post, after buying an M3 (ban?!) I don't really hang around here.

Anyways, I saw this E60 AMG yesterday gents, scruffy to say the least !

- Wing mirror damaged / base is rough
- Stonechipped front / sides
- Alloys all corroded (fronts worse)
- Brakes look old

All this without looking inside / driving it. Sorry I couldn't get any better interior pics, too many reflections in the showroom!

Cheers,
Bill

Oh yeah, 26,000 km on the clock which is hardly believable looking at the thing. The E36 AMG coupe they had in red was in much better condition.

Might be clocked IMO - you will need to seriously check & verify the history if you are mad enough to pay even half of the £85k asking price at Frays.

One better, the W123 in red was absolutely spotless, only 18k miles on the clock and it looked like it just rolled off the factory line.

Cheers,
Bill

Few more of moi, one of which is an S70 AMG! Quite rare as i've never seen one, had Dubai number plates on it too. Apparently imported from Japan which is true as it has AMG Japan stickers all over, apparently belonging to some collector which might be BS! Probably some arab parked it up after they bought a new Enzo LOL.

I've got tonnes of MB World photos if anyone wants to see them.

Cheers,
Bill

Hi, these decommissioned ex-Japan imports were/are dirt cheap in UAE...no "rich arab" would dare to be seen in these $10,000 scrap cars...a fountain pen costs much more.
So talk of "rich Arab collector" must be considered as pure grade 1 Bull $hit.

This is the same car that is featured in the latest issue of Classic Mercedes magazine; I have posted the complete article in that sub-forum.

The article says "Only six of the original E60 AMG Limiteds are believed to still be up and running. The car we drove, which spent time on display at Mercedes-Benz World in Brooklands in Surrey, was one of the later creations, a 1996 Limited originally built to order for a Japanese customer -- it felt like new and looked it with its flawless leather upholstery and gleaming moody blue paintwork. A legend, indeed."

Down to six, eh? Where do they get these numbers?

Located in Japan for the low price of $137,044 (¥17,800,000 JPY).

C208913 is a different car... click here. That one has a red interior, AMG engine, and Gen2 body kit.

This one for sale in Japan has a gray interior and no body kit.

Hard to make out the VIN tag... think it is WDB1240361C208915 which is a Limited with gray interior:

Datacard: https://www.lastvin.com/vin/KB3ag2WeK4QZdR79V
First i found 15, but was confused by grey leather )) Realy close finßs, 13 and 15.

Merged two threads on same car.
If I understand correctly, in this thread are now 3 different cars, all ex-Japan Ltd's in sapphire black:

(1) VIN C208913, post #1 through #40, post-delivery AMG E60 (no 957 code), autom. aircon 581, in 2013 considered scruffy by some of you who actually saw the car, in 2013 reportedly 26K km's but mileage probably/likely clocked, interior swapped (no longer original 287 red), no service history, current whereabouts unknown;

(2) VIN C208915, post #41 through #45, post-delivery Brabus 6.0, for sale in Japan 2 years ago, reported 52K km's, manual aircon 580, interior as original 288 grey; current whereabouts unknown;

(3) the "Poland car", post #46 through #48, currently still advertized by Duda Legends, E60 AMG (post-delivery???), 51K km's, manual aircon 580, non-original Japanese centre console, VIN unknown, asking price unknown.
