There is a super clean 05 on a buy here pay here lot locally. From what I can find these are pretty much a a re bodied stripped down and lightened AMG SLK 32. No doubt that they have the hand-built AMG supercharged 3.2 and 5 speed from the SLK 32. It's a silver coup one owner car and is pristine. There were only 2500 built of the coups out of a total of just over 5000. Pretty spot on this one

For reference, they are pretty much that. Get inside of one and you'll recognize the cockpit.

I was looking for an SLK 32 a few years ago for Mrs. Dan, and saw a few of these on the market over time. I think I looked at one but it had issues and I wasn't looking for a project.

It's sold. Nice car.
That was not the car I was looking at but is spot on it. CarFax shows several owners at low miles new then one owner for the last 10 or so years and a little over 50K. Car has 101K and is super clean. It's about 60 miles from here and they are closed on Saturdays. Hope to roll up next week and drive it. Almost bought a 06 SLK 55 a few years ago but it sold on line while I was test driving it then passed on a C 32 I shouldn't have so know these a little. This one can be bought somewhere between $10 and 12K.

Beware ABC (Active Body Control) suspension unless you're a serious DIY'er or have loads of cash you want to part with. An amazing system when functional, there aren't many shops out there that will even touch these cars anymore - ask Jono, he's one of them!

In fairness, I have a W215 (CL600) with ABC, and I love it. Mine was well cared for over nearly all of its life, so I'm good for the most part. However, others are not so inclined to maintain these, making future repairs excessive. Even worse, there are those who will remove the ABC system and install aftermarket "coilovers" to replace the hydraulic struts at each corner. While this works, without sway bars and a suspension rebuild, you'll never remotely approach the experience of driving the original car, which as I said previously, is amazing.

And even worse, the SLKs' ABC system parts are becoming NLA. The tandem pump used on them went NLA recently. Fortunately, the W215 system parts are still available.

No ABC, only a normal suspension

Overall the slk32/srt6 is a very solid car to buy. Very reliable and durable.
Crossfire specific parts are getting rare and very often nla in Europe, maybe the situation is better in the US.
Thanks for confirming, Merlin

No, there is not, however, it's a close "cousin" to the SL, which does, just so people are aware. This is also why I limited my searches to the R170 and not the later SL R230, which has ABC.

Dan, other than the "SL" in the name the R170 and the R230 do not share things or are tied close in the used technology.
The R170 is a W202 with a convertible roof.
The R230 is an own platform, with the famous SBC brake and the ABC suspension. European 6 cylinder cars had ABC as special option and usually came with a normal steel suspension.

I'm acquainted with both and I understand what you're saying. However, I'm saying that someone who might be considering coupes from that time frame may choose to consider other (similar) platforms within the marque, and the R230 is of the same vintage, so it's an obvious model to look at if you were expanding your search. I looked at the R230s initially but was turned away after minimal research due to their complexity.

That's all, just drawing some very general parallels in case "options" are being considered. CLK 32s are not easy to find around here, at least they weren't when I was looking, and I was looking pretty much anywhere in the country.

Guys I spent some time with this car yesterday and it's. an absolute beast! It is indeed essentially a stripped down AMG SLK 32 but with a much more agressive personality. These are lighter tighter and more aggressive than a SLK 32 or 55 are and I have driven all 3. Handling is razor sharp and the suspension feels MUCH different in the way it's set up than a SLK 32. Unfortunately the roof line is also a couple inches lower than a SLK is and I'm 6:2. I also am suffering from a thing called AS Ankylosing spondylitis - Wikipedia which is affecting my back and neck pretty badly now. I don't need to own this car as I can hardly get in and out of it now and it would kill me to drive with my spinal issues. If that was not the case it would have come home with me yesterday. It was like driving a 350 horse go cart and a absolute blast. Handled amazingly well ( by FAR the best handling Mercedes I have ever driven!) she has big power and sticks HARD in the corners. This would make a killer track car with the Barbers facility Barber Motorsports Park and Museum | Birmingham, Alabama just a couple miles from me here.
Can be bought for $11.5K out the door which is a killer deal IMO and this car is in very nice shape. CC Ryder has it in Gadsden Alabama and the guy I was working with is Mark Esties. turns out our families are from the same area and have all kinds of family connections . The lot phone number is 877 822 6743. Somebody who understands what this is needs to buy this car as it's an absolute blast to drive. It also goes like stink!!

This Crossfire will absolutely destroy a SLK 32 on a road course. The suspension is much much more aggressive and feels nothing like a SLK 32.at all It shocked me just how good this little SR 6 Crossfire was in the turns and it's stone stock. Ride quality suffers it's not a cushy ride but man is it a little handler. Will spank a LOT of pretty well known sports cars badly! I was shocked at how aggressive the little car was and it's a real sleeper as if you don't know what it really is you would never dream it could run so hard. Would be a hella fun ambush predator on the streets!
