SOLD 1994 E500 Limited, Sapphire Black/Black/Gray, $140k (California)

WAY more than that on deferred maintenance based on cascade's punch list. Note that the original poster/seller put his tail between his legs and slithered away. He requested that his account be removed (which is against forum policy, but it was disabled).

I would not call this particular car "well bought" at $85K + incidentals. I think the $60-65K mark was more appropriate for this example.

I'm sure we'll be seeing it back on the market within a year or two.....

I forgot this sold for €75k (~$88k USD) in Poland, back in January 2024. Assuming that buyer is the same person who is selling now, they lost a bit in 2.5 years.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but the seller and the top bidder on Bring a Trailer could agree on and report any mutually decided number — not necessarily reflecting the actual purchase price.

This is correct, but in general, I'd expect the actual sale price to match what the public number is.

I have to admit that I am not crazy about these 036s becoming trading tokens garnering high tickets. I like to actually use mine and even park it on the street. I know that I can drive it to Costco one day and Geneva the next. It was almost better when it was new and nobody knew just what it was. The last thing I want is for my car to become a beauty queen. My estate may feel differently but that will be their problem.

So now is the perfect time to grab a Mercedes-Benz E55k W211, enjoy driving it under the radar and watch prices climb on yet another “old boring” Mercedes E-Class.

I wonder what WOB’s fee or commission was for this $85K sale price. I’d say he spent a lot of $$$ on detailing and photography. It appears that the undercarriage was dry iced also. I would expect that he got a fair chunk of $$$ out of that sale price.

With publicly known prices from listings in Poland and on Bring a Trailer, this sale doesn’t make much sense.

But if they bought it for less in Poland and achieved a higher result on BaT, then it starts to add up.

Wob is a consignment dealer, and I don't know if his commission / fee schedule is public or not. Google says typical automotive consignment commission is 5-15% so let's say Wob got 10% or $8500, not bad for a photo shoot & detail job. Could also be he charges a flat fee - really have no idea.

:wahoo:

A consignment agent (Wob, in this case) might very well pass photo and detail expenses on to the selling owner.

It is a hoot to drive, for sure. Makes me wish I still lived in Texas....with its wide open roads. But what a car.

Took me a while to get everything set up and adjusted and maintained exactly to my liking, and there were a couple of small issues that popped up (power steering high-pressure hose was weeping, then leaking, etc.). But all is perfect with the car now. Only defects are very very slight curb rash on two of the wheels (will be getting this fixed later in 2026) and a very slight hairline vertical scratch on the rear bumper, which I will carefully touch up with a micro applicator. Other than that, the car is literally, perfect. Makes me smile every time I drive it.
