Forum behavior at its worst

Here's an example of the type of forum dialogue that makes so many MB forums not that nice of a place to be.

Thanks to everyone for keeping the level of banter, dlalogue, humor and value here at 500Eboard so high.

This individual who is blustering and making threats in this Benzworld thread is one of the Benzworld drama queens who is not welcome here at this forum, and who has been "removed" many months ago. There are a few others as well. Individuals with a track record of rancor and causing problems, will be strongly encourage NOT to register and participate here.

Venting, ranting and using hate speech... a Mercedes Benz Forum isn't a "soapbox to vent personal frustrations" or rant about issues. We make this online community of people with diverse beliefs, opinions, and backgrounds, along with different levels of knowledge and skills. This same sort of crap happens on the 190rev forums. I quit that forum many years ago because of the immature people on it that were allowed to abuse other forum members. Many of these problems reside at the admin level, that is the admins need to actually administer the forum and ban abusing users as soon as the problems appear.

I believe the thing is also about our car... a 500E is out of interest of immature dumbfucks these days (thank god!). Thats why we won't see them here. I even can't remember that it was any bad in the old 500ecstasy forums which somehow affirms my assumption.
Most 500E drivers are mature people, mostly (but not always) 25++ years of age and have a different kind of behavior and a view regarding "the things".

Agree Christian. The 500Ecstasy forum also had a high level of dialogue, which has translated over here.

You would assume also a 560SEC/126 would be full of older "grandpa" type drivers but for some reason the Benzworld 126 forum seems to have a lot of drama. Though it's only from perhaps 8-10 individuals.

And I agree Rik, the biggest problems are encouraged by admins who aren't doing their jobs. In the case of the Benzworld 126 forum, the troublemakers are allowed to run free or they get "temporary" bans of a week. This action does nothing to discourage bad behavior, because they know they'll be allowed back on the forum in a matter of a few days.

Best to simply PM a person who is doing that as soon as possible, letting him know it's not following the rules of conduct or something. Sometimes people don't even know what they are doing (believe me, I'm an expert in that field... *sigh*)

Jelmer, I agree with you, and with most people your approach can and does work.

But you don't know the ego of this particular individual & how he operates. He doesn't have the capacity to listen to reason. What's really interesting are the times he issues death threats (implied or explicit).

As far as nice cars .... there are long, drawn out stories behind that too. Don't be deceived by basic descriptions... the link below is why I use the term "drama queen"

Ahhh yeah, there are always exceptions. This particular individual visits forums for other reasons than most of us. We come here to ask questions, answer questions, have some fun, etc. He probably comes there to twist conversations in such a way that he can come out feeling good about himself - or at the very least defend his own shortcomings. Every group has those, unfortunately...

Maybe everyone on those forums should completely ignore him for a few days, see how that turns out ;-)

This is the trouble with big forums, people get personal quite easily. And this is why I rarely post on MB UK forums - not only coz of drama queens but far too much off-topic stuff - heck, they even talk about a iphones, blackberrys and a missing cat

This forum though, best ever and good closed knit community. Quality banter and humor. Oh..and of course, wicked in depth knowledge of a specific car.

Didn't have the time (or desire) to read all 90+ pages but, and maybe I'm wrong, but it seems like it's a mutual admiration society between a few members who do things in a half-ass manner, make novice mistakes while the Grand Marshall of that parade is someone who comes from a family who has a long history of cross threading wheel fasteners.

I have to agree with Gerry, that Woodland560 guy..... there are stories I have heard, you wouldn't believe. I heard that he actually got, sit down please, BANNED. That's right BANNED from some Benz forum. I also heard that, in addition to giving Johnny Boothe the gun that was used to shoot President Lincoln, he personally was responsible for shooting Archduke Ferdinand, the sinking of the Titanic and the invaision of Poland not to mention choosing the wire type for the 92-95 Mercedes engine harnesses. The song "Sympathy for the Devil" was a history of his life according to my good friends Mick and Keith...

All I know is that as long as they are not on THIS forum, I'm happy. I'm sure several of them are on here under fake names, but they haven't popped their heads up and probably won't. A couple of them own 124.034s now, and this is really the only forum that caters specifically to those cars and their big-brothers....so it's safe to say they're here, seeing as I removed several of them last year after they'd registered under their Benzworld names.

It appears that "Woodlands560" was banned from Benzworld today, but not before giving the perpetrator a good, hard broadside.
The mouth-breather ratio on Benzworld is quite high.

That Woodlands560 is my type of guy !!

You are correct, but we have created dedicated 034 sub-forums, in recognition (and catering to the needs of) 034 owners. But indeed, this forum retains a near-singular focus on the 036 & high-performance/tuned variants.

The 034 and 126 coupe sub-sections are related, but are also clearly subordinate to this site's focus. I do see multiple intersection points between all three cars in terms of the platform, the technology, the pre-merger AMG connection & heritage, and common ownership of these cars between quite a number of folks here.

Most points are mentioned already and I fully support.

97% of my forum time goes here, whitout question. The remaining 3% goes mostly on the Norwegian MBEntusiastklubb forum, just to have a foot inside, but the level of 124.036 knowlegde is too low for me there. I seldom visit other forums, it’s simply too much personal attacks and word hoarding with endless reading.

It’s several reasons for me being here and the main reason is of course the 124.036 itself. But there are other reasons of definitive importance, that is the deep enthusiasm for our car, discipline in the subjects/threads, the goodwill and mutual respect between the members, and finally – the great organisation for this given to us by Gerry. It is simply fantastic - no it is Vanzandtic!

Sorry not to have caught this earlier, but I've been away from the forums due to travel in Europe.

I see we have had an influx of Benzworld 126 Forum users on this forum over the past couple of months. I want to make one thing very clear. This type of snide post, and any/all members who create them, will NOT be tolerated on this forum.

Y'all are welcome here, up to a point. That point means that the Benzworld 126 Forum attitudes and culture are checked at the door here at the 500Eboard. This forum has ZERO tolerance for people with an attitude and offenders will be promptly deleted and IP-blocked.

This 500E forum has a worldwide base of enthusiasts and has a far higher level of knowledge and discourse than all of the other "generalist" MB forums out there, and I fully intend to keep it that way. Save the attitudes for Benzworld, MBWorld and PeachParts, but not here. Debates and earnest discussions are welcomed, but put-downs, snide tones and other such negativism spoils the forum and quickly leads to a poor environment for everyone.

In the 3.5 years I've run 500Eboard/500Espot, this is the first time I've had to post something like this.

OK, given today's flare-up, I had to agree with Derf's comment about it being a low-point on the forum, so I removed the offending posts and drama.

People generally calmed down publicly, which was good to see, and everyone got in their fun and their licks, so it's time to take the "nast" off the forum.

I almost banned the offender immediately (though unlike Benzworld I am hesitant to insta-ban folks), but hopefully this is not necessary.

That being said, strong venomous verbal attacks are not tolerated here and in the future, offenders will receive a strong reprimand, or worse.

Secondly, although we've had some recent discussions here and elsewhere about people here being quite "harsh" about critiquing peoples' cars for sale, generally speaking this is more of a service to the community and prospective buyers than it is a dis-service to sellers. I also believe in free speech and as long as it isn't a personal attack, and is E500E related, then it is welcome here.

All that said, I do think we have a few users (myself included) who are quite strong and vociferous with their criticisms. When it has to purely do with the car, it is fine in my book. But when offensive statements start being made about sellers being douches, Guidos, greedy bastards, etc. then it probably goes a bit too far. I like a good Guido joke as much as anyone does (and I'm happy to take as good as I give, personally), and that type of stuff is fine up to a point. But I think in the thread about the SoCal car things went a bit too far before the seller found our forum, and he had a natural reaction when he spotted the level and degree of critique and name-calling. So I do think he had a right to be angry, though perhaps his reaction and threats were over the top and not necessary.

It is a "teachable moment" for many of us -- like I said myself included, on this. It is easy to get carried away at a computer keyboard with little repercussion, but it is important to put ourselves in the shoes of others.

To all of the 500Eboard members ... I apologize for my own misbehaviour, and for letting this situation get out of control today. I promise to do better on both counts and not permit Benzworld-level drama here in our club-house.

...it's like discussing the theory of relativity with a 2year old. The R129 sub-forum is now overcome with newbies who got their car for less than $10,000 and pretends that they got a $100,000 car. And the reason for owning one is for its looks and how people look at them while driving. So, there is no rational/factual argument that could change this blind faith.

I think that it's a waste of time going to a model specific forum and trying to convince them that your car is better then theirs. It's all subjective at the end of the day. The 500E guy will more then likely be choosing his car from a list of hot rod sedans like the BMW M5, and the R129 guy is probably looking for a roadster all along.

Anyway, I'm off to the Gen3 Camaro forum to rub my Porsche 928 in their face. If they give me any lip, i'll beat them with my 7 foot long timing belt

What happened is a guy over there (lowesguy) who has a W126, W124, and now his wife bought a 500SL

He posted on the 500E for sale thread that the R129 was better and he wouldn't pay more then $5K for a 036

Then after the backlash on the 124 sub forum, he goes on the 129 sub forum and started that thread

So he's just a trouble maker like the other 126 members.
