• Hi Guest !

    Welcome to the 500Eboard forum.

Since its founding in late 2008, 500Eboard has become the leading resource on the Internet for all things related to the Mercedes-Benz 500E and E500. In recent years, we have also expanded to include the 400E and E420 models, which are directly related to the 500E/E500.

We invite you to browse and take advantage of the information and resources here on the site. If you find helpful information, please register for full membership, and you'll find even more resources available. Feel free to ask questions, and make liberal use of the "Search" function to find answers.

We hope you will become an active contributor to the community!

    Sincerely,

World map of E500E owners

Yesterday when I registered on the map I could access for changes by pointing and clicking my username on the tag, but today it doesn't work. Any idea on how to do this?

Sorry, I made some changes to the security on the map. Please try again.

Maybe we all can get some of the ones we know that are not on this board to at least join in on the mapping.

When I say that "I know of" it means I have seen these cars in my area, I have yet to track any of the owners down. So I am just keeping a mental count at this point.

Dang now we know where all the great low mile cars are .....

Billy, What else do you have in your collection ?

I think you need to sign in to make changes but I'm not sure. If you want, just create a new marker and I'll delete the old one.

I created a new one but I still cannot edit it so that I can add a pic ? Could you also please delete the old marker (blue one)

It is kinda interesting , there are so many people on a map already 300+ and only 30+ people are active on a board and maybe 20+ are real active and participate in discussions .....

Folks,

I have taken the liberty of embedding the map directly into the forum, which should allow members to continue to add pins.

I also added an "Owner Map" tab at the top of the page (where the Wiki, Gallery and other links are) that will send one directly to Glen's original map page.

Hope people find this useful.

Cheers,
Gerry

Good Idea Guys, Even help in Planning next year's meeting.. Didn't the last months of 500ecstasy have a similar map ?

Yes, I think Scott did implement a map like this, but it didn't have the same level of participation as this one has had already....

Looking through the list, it's cool and amazing to me how many owners have multiple E500E's. :applause:

Is there any way to require people to post the year/model of their car? I still see a couple that I'm pretty sure no longer have an 036 :scratchchin:

Hey, scroll up to Alaska. There's one up there too!

:D

No, any and all info is strictly voluntary. I originally only wanted current owners to post a marker but it's clear to me that isn't happening. As it stands, it appears that any/all E500E enthusiasts are dropping markers...which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

I am actively deleting all anonymous and duplicate markers.

The next time I spy a 500e, I am going to snap a pic and add it to the list. Even without a name or any particulars, it would be good to get as many as possible listed.

My marker is already there.

I only know of the existence of 4 E500E in Portugal: mine from 1992 (came from Switzerland) , one from 1991 (the first one sold new in Portugal) and two others from late 1994 (one sold new in Portugal, the other came from France). The owners from those other three aren't going to any internet forums, sadly. I know the cars but not the persons that owns them.

Congratulations for this initiative.

I thought this was interesting...

I'm bumping this to keep it alive, we are getting close to 400, be sure to add yourself if you have not already.

Thx

Sooo, since we have pins from non 036 owners, do we need a filter? Otherwise the numbers being mentioned are not 036 specific.

You may want to consider it a map of 036 enthusiasts, much like the members of this site are.

Vookage accepted. :approved:

We should change confirmed 036 owners to a single color and unconfirmed or unmarked pins as another color.

I'm all for a filter, the problem is that it's difficult to implement or enforce.

+1.

I'm content with all enthusiasts adding their markers but I do prefer that owners list their cars. I am actively deleting anonymous and duplicate entries. I have also been deleting dealers/shops that place a marker purely for their business, UNLESS, they are a known E500E owner.

Well done, that's fair.

Of course, if all the 500Es are going to be one color, it should be the color I chose, which is, after all, the best one.

What really bugs me with this map is that it doesn't expand multiple markers at the same position. I saw before (somehow? can't remember why/how) that there are at least two markers dead center in Amsterdam, but I can't click them. Is there an option I missed? Can I get a list of markers in my current viewport?

It should work if you zoom the map, eh?

I the past I have zoomed in a bit on the marker in LA Ca., the clicked on it, it would then scroll thru 5-6 names.

This does not seem to be working now, it just stuck on 1 name.

When multiple markers are in the same location or very, very close you need to zoom in...either by using the map + - buttons or the mouse scroll wheel. Once sufficiently zoomed in, if you click on the first visible marker, an info balloon pops-up. If you then close that balloon, you should see the marker change to a different letter, which indicates another marker which you can then click on to bring up another info balloon.

The map pins do change, as Glen has described. If we all included the exact address in our profile, we would see more pins than now.

I... am not quite sure how to respond to that. I'll go with "duh" ;)

My point is that many people just enter "Netherlands" or "Amsterdam", and it puts all markers EXACTLY at the same coordinates. See my screenshots.

I should note that there doesn't seem to be a way to select these, other than searching for them via the sidebar. Hence the question about "show me all nodes that are on my screen" functionality.
Edit: I should read. CLOSING the balloon indeed switches the marker. Still, "exploding" them would be awesome.

I agree that it would be best if people included their full address, but some people just don't want to, and you can't blame them.

Welcome back, J-man! Where you been hiding?
I'm still here - just lurking. Focusing on work so I can afford the coming work on the car...

Finally added mine in Hermosa Beach. It's fun to wander around the world.. two in Iceland! But more interestingly, six in Georgia (the country not the state)!
