• Hi Guest !

    Welcome to the 500Eboard forum.

Since its founding in late 2008, 500Eboard has become the leading resource on the Internet for all things related to the Mercedes-Benz 500E and E500. In recent years, we have also expanded to include the 400E and E420 models, which are directly related to the 500E/E500.

We invite you to browse and take advantage of the information and resources here on the site. If you find helpful information, please register for full membership, and you'll find even more resources available. Feel free to ask questions, and make liberal use of the "Search" function to find answers.

We hope you will become an active contributor to the community!

Welcome to the 2020 500Eboard Photo Contest !!

During the month of February 2020, you will have the opportunity to submit a photo of your choosing. Participating members can vote on the photos.

The contest will continue until February 29, 2020. At that time, photo submissions will be closed.

Members will have until March 10, 2020 to vote on the accumulated photo submissions. On March 10, votes will be tallied, and the winner of the photo contest will received a useful and valuable 500E-related prize from me, postage-paid.

Here's how the contest works:
  • Submit a photo by posting it to the thread, as you normally would attach a photo.
  • After posting, the photo will appear (as a thumbnail) in a block at the top of this thread.
  • You can click on each photo in the thread to expand it, as normal.
  • Click on the "Like" button on each photo's post to vote for it.
  • Only "Like" "Love" and "Haha" smilies will be considered votes. Other smilies, such as "Wow" "Sad" "Angry" and "Dislike" will not count as "yea" or "nay" votes for a photo.
  • The number inside the small gray box on the upper photo thumbnail group shows how many votes that the photo currently has.
  • Votes can be changed as often as desired by removing one's "Like" for a particular photo, and "Liking" another photo.

Contest rules:
  1. All submitted photos MUST be directly relevant to the 500E/E500, and include said car or parts in the photo.
  2. All submitted photos MUST be taken by the submitter, or a close friend or relative.
  3. No photos of women in bikinis or other distracting topics -- submissions should focus mainly on the cars.
  4. Only ONE photo submission will be permitted per 500Eboard member.
  5. The system will NOT allow members to vote for their own photo.
  6. All photo submissions will be reviewed by and accepted solely at the discretion of the 500Eboard Management Team.
  7. Photo submissions can be changed or amended ONLY by special arrangement with -- and solely at the discretion of -- the 500Eboard Management Team.
  8. Photo submissions end on 2/29/2020. Voting ends on 3/10/2020.
  9. Winner will be determined by the largest number of votes, as of midnight EST, 3/10/2020.
  10. Prize will be determined by 500Eboard Management. Winner may have choice of prize. Prize value will be at least USD $75.
So, go ahead and submit your best photo, and GOOD LUCK !! It's as easy as posting and waiting.

Sample photo submission -- not officially part of the contest:

This was taken in southern Oregon, just north of the California border, on the drive home from picking up my E500 in September, 2003. Hard to believe it was that long ago.

Cool stuff Gerry - excited to see the postings :choochoo:

Can I just ask for one clarification. Is there an issue with applying a filter to the photo? I have a particular shot of my own 500E I liked, especially with a filter on it looks greyscale sort of.

I guess it goes without saying too that the poster should have taken the photo themselves? (And not copied from the interwebs etc)

Yes. You can submit any photo of your car that you want to, including Photoshopped or otherwise manipulated photos.

It is fine to include a photo taken at a Concours or other event (with people or cars in the photo).

The idea of such a contest is very nice, thank you, I am very appreciative for it but I am thinking it would have been nice to include the C126 too. Perhaps a similar contest for the C126 group? I know that some here have some very nice C126s.

The title of, and 85% of the focus of, this site is "500Eboard". And the photo contest shall be limited to, and directly support, the mission and automotive centerpiece of this site.

I'd bet that the Banzworld 126 forum could do a similar photo contest, seeing as they are now running the same software as this site? Perhaps worth a petition from the many BW 126 refugees here, to Tootone or RossBoss over there as a consideration? :stickpoke:

A throw back to the 2017 Nurburgring classic 90th Anniversary event. Photoshoot for the cover page of Mercedes-Tuner magazine.

Still the best shots we had, though the car has progressed quite a distance then.

Admin please confirm that the pictures qualifies.

Of course it qualifies !!! Does not the data card say WDB124036.......... -- ?

The pre-facelift cars with the euro headlights manage to look better on this site than they do elsewhere. I guess that’s why I was always 50/50 on it. And that’s a lot of work for 50/50. I definitely DO NOT like that look with wiper delete, which probably moved the needle on work.

maw

:plusone: No idea why people want to delete the wipers I really like the aesthetics of them if nothing else

Totally agree with this statement. It's nice to see other MB cars and all that, but what makes this forum special is the focus on a single car.....

Just checking to make sure you haven't forgotten your roots. You've become quite the 140-man as of late. Perhaps your moniker should be changed from "E500E Enthusiast" to "140 Resto-God" :stickpoke:

This is true! My owners thread has inadvertently become "Owner S500" and lots of c124 / w220 is to come in the summer. But the 500E will be back too very shortly

Resto God is already taken but 124/140 Resto Jedi might work! :noevil:

Blast from the past

Great pic from the Seattle gang at the time. Notice our “Honch” was a member then!

This pic makes a statement for the “Wiper Delete” issue. Eight out of nine cars are without.

Gerry’s car is one out of nine that has the wipers.

lol

Which is why Gerry is the Site Honcho, right?

Unless you’re the Lead Dog, the view never changes.

I think many USA-spec, pre-facelift cars get the wipers deleted when the headlights are upgraded to Euro-spec. I also think this is mostly due to the extra cost and effort required to retrofit... much cheaper & easier to swap on a blank/delete panel. AND, most of those cars are on the west coast, where the wipers are purely for aesthetics - they are only functional when driving in snow/ice conditions. West coasters consider them useless, so why pay $$$$ to install stuff that's never used? (Note: Some of the parts for this conversion are NLA new, and it's getting harder to obtain used parts, so you'll probably see fewer wiper upgrades in the future.)

USA facelift models have the Euro-style wipers from the factory, which is why Gerry's car has them. All the other cars in that group photo are non-facelift, except the silver car to the right of Honch, which looks like Sean from Canada. And IIRC his car was pre-facelift that received a facelift conversion due to accident repair. (?)

Personally I like the look of the proper "Euro" wipers, even though I never use them!

Bertha will never see snow but you'll have to pry my headlight wipers from my cold, dead hands. They're so awesome!

P.S. For my money, the photo of Red Baron at the 'ring completely takes the cake. I wanna blow that up and put it up on my wall and when people ask, "Oh, is that your car?" I'll be like, "No :*( "

I am sitting under the poster in the living room while typing this :D

Lots of great shots posted by everyone, albdentist and Dunnik are strong contenders.

I am so happy that people are engaged and enjoying contributing photos and commenting on this thread!

Regards from the Tower of London (no, I’ve not been imprisoned here) and St. Paul’s Cathedral.

Here is a Pic from last year I believe. I won't be able to get new photos anytime soon.. snow.. ice...salty roads are keeping Ms. Bornite indoors until the weather breaks and all the salt is off the roads... The next set of new pic's will probably be after my Evo II's in storage are installed..... Anyway here is the best picture I can find of Ms. Bornite.. the pride of my modest fleet...

Tex, my 199 500E is in for new paint now, so this spring I'll be able to see what a 199 500E looks like with new paint in person...

I've contemplated on and off about repainting the cladding and bumpers on Ms. Bornite to match the upper paint, but I'm torn between originality and better appearance... A no brainer for Tex, its going monotone, but with Ms. Bornite, it's a tougher decision to lose the original cladding/bumper paint that is still in great shape.

I was always curious why Red Baron, is not a Red Duke, Marquess or, at the very least, a Red Earl since they all are higher ranks than a Baron?

Good point, depending on where it will reside it might become THE RED DUKE.

But Red Baron still has a nice historical reference to is: BIG + RED + WING + Takes out anything on the Autobahn (in its days)

Thanks Terry! Note that pic is best viewed on a desktop computer and can serve as a nice desktop / screen saver too :)

Your Right!! I will download it and slip it into my 500E desktop slideshow. Until now it’s been exclusively my car. I think I will be downloading others pics also.

:thankyou1:

PS, I don’t want to ruffle anybody’s feathers by downloading a pic. If anybody has a problem with it just let me know.
