18x9J AMG Monoblocks, ET35, on an R129?

Hi everyone!

I have a set of 18x9J ET35 Monoblocks for sale, and have been asked by a prospective purchaser if they will fit an R129? I assume that the rear wouldn't be a problem, but am wondering if spacers might be needed on the front?

Thanks in advance.

I think the 9.0 wheel and/or tire will touch the strut tube with ET35. Good chance of needing spacers up front, possibly 10-15mm? Not sure how this will look.

You could test-fit the wheel on the front of your 500E and see if it clears the strut tube or not. The R129 front suspension is almost identical.

Yep, I was running the Monoblocks on my 500E until recently, and I used 12mm spacers on the front in order to clear the struts. However, I don't recall the exact details, but I think the spacers were more to provide clearance for the tyre wall (I was running 275x35 at the time), rather than the wheel itself? Maybe with a 235 ratio tyre, the spacers wouldn't be needed. For aesthetic purposes, I also used 12mm spacers on the rear - although technically they were not needed.

Thanks for your input, Dave!

P.S. As you suggest, I could refit one of the wheels to the front of my 500 to test it out - but I've now bagged them up for despatch to any potential purchaser! Huge quantities of bubble-wrap involved!

A 9-inch Monoblock with a 245/40 Michelin tire will fit the front of an 036 with a 3mm spacer to prevent the tire from contacting the strut. Other tires may be a bit different due to tire sidewall differences. I run this setup on one of my own.

edit; I just remembered I have a modified brake/rotor system on this car requiring the 3mm spacer. No spacer is required for stock, including SA, setup.

The AMG Monoblock Type 2 wheels in 18" will fit the R129 no problem.
Normally they come staggered with 8" front and 9" rear, but your squared setup will fit no issues.

Thanks for that info. Unfortunately, your reassurance arrived too late for me to convince the prospective purchaser to buy the wheels! However, the circumstances of the aborted purchase were a bid odd I corresponded with the purchaser (?) regarding whether the wheels would fit, and after he had supposedly checked, he agreed to the purchase. He drive 100 miles to collect them from my home address, then on arrival, turned them down - as he said he thought they woudn't fit! As we say this side of the pond, "there's none so queer as folk"!
