1970 Mercedes Benz 250 W114

I had a 73 280 I had great plans to install a 3.2 M104 but I had 2 many projects so instend the car was gone though mechanically and sold to a fellow in Tennessee. These are great cars and I agree with the seller if flames are not your thing move on but you can see the love and money invested so for 7K it’s a great car. Warmed over 6 I would love to see how it runs. The low compression M110 in the 73 with the horrible Solex 4bbl. was a real dog. The twin Zeniths worked better

Anyone know what the plate is on the floor next to the lift?

I bought a 1970 250C that was abandoned with the City of Orlando for parking fees. Had the typical floor pan and rocker rust in the front, but after the judicious application of some fiberglass that was resolved.

After the dual Zeniths were sorted, and if you're someone who would replace them you should be severely abused, it was a great car that was loads of fun to drive and would pull stumps when you stomped on it. I had it when I lived in San Francisco, and was often seen running it up to full throttle on early Sunday mornings on the 280. Great car, lots of fun. Lousy gas mileage, but who cares?

Then came the M110 with the emissions compliance Solex 4a1 4bbl. The dual Zeniths worked great. The C114 coupe is timeless beauty.

Never owned a car with the M110, but I did have a W123 LWB that had an M130 with the Solex 4A1. That thing was awful, it leaked like a sieve. Replaced it with a Holley 5200, which also helped with performance. M110s scared me, as I had heard stories about issues they had that I don't recall.

I always thought that the rear side windows and c-pillar profile on the 126 coupe was FAR more elegant and eye-pleasing than the squarish C114. That is probably the biggest reason why I never owned a C114, couldn't get over that C-pillar. Front of the car is fine, and the interior is rather like the 108/109.

I find both designs pleasing to the eye. I also like the lines of the C124 coupe as well.

People are starting to really appreciate the W and C114. 20 years ago, it was definitely not for everybody and was overshadowed by the W108/C111 as far as styling and they rusted like crazy. I (obviously) like them. They have the same build as a W109 but are much more agile. You can actually chuck these cars around and they don't mind.

Quite true.

It seemed for many years that the W114 cars were sort of the proverbial "red-headed stepchildren" of the model line for a lot of reasons. Personally, I thought they were sort of "meh" when it came to looks. I preferred the W108 or W116 to the W114 when it came to appearance.
