I find myself drawn to this car. I really like the rare color and from what I can see a well kept vehicle in decent condition. I’m not sure I would be happy though with a rev happy 6cyl. even with the rare manual transmission. Maybe someone on the forum can find out why this car has a rebuilt title.

VIN = WDBFA61E2NF045514

1992 Mercedes Benz 300SL 5 Speed manual - $13,800 (north vancouver)

Rare 5 Speed dogleg manual transmission Mercedes R129 SL convertible. One of approx. 200 sold in N.America from 1990 to 1992 and only available with the 228hp Six cylinder 24 Valve motor. Car has all options including Becker AM/FM Stereo with 10 CD trunk mounted player, Aluminum hardtop, Hydraulic power roof and deployable roll bar, 12 Spoke chrome alloys, power leather seats, even a car phone ! Aluminum hardtop. Rare Bornite (blackberry/peacock) Metallic colour. All systems are working great with exception that A/C needs serving for summer. Recent Continental Extreme Contact rubber. Sticker price of this car in 1992 was a breathtaking US$84000. Car has 109,400 MILES (175,000 KM)
I imported car from Bellevue, WA where it was sold and spent its life. Car has a rebuilt title issued in 2020 ( during Covid which I think was an expediency to get title transferred after car was traded) It is a mystery because all paint seems original and all factory installed VIN ID stickers are intact on all detachable body panels ( see photos attd). First shot shows car with hardtop installed, others are very recent. The car is licenced in BC, drivable anywhere and serviced. Just installed 2 new fuel pumps. I have Youtube videos of hardtop deployment and test drives. Just ask.
Offers please. I have priced car below Hagerty recommendation, not including a 50% increase for rare manual tranny option they suggest. Equivalent to US$10K.

This car is practically in my backyard but the Rebuilt title is a deal breaker. I agree with 2phast, the excuse is really thin. The Wa Rebuilt title decal on the driver's side door jamb is dated 5/1/019 which is well before the pandemic.

I couldn't make that out, picture seemed a bit blury

I really like it. The colors look great on a 129 and the manual is rare and fun.

It looks in good shape from the pics and although the title excuse is likely fabricated, I wouldn't be turned off of a nice, rare car at this price level due to a salvage title.

IDK man, car is gorgeous. And with an ad like that ("offers please") I don't expect it to last long.

I have a friend who was always after these manual R129 cars. He bought one cheap with the intention to fix it up but never did. I just texted him "sell yours and buy this one."

So don't study long and wrong.

maw

I had one, but it was not in good shape. That said, the M104 with a 5 speed was a blast to drive. The red line was 7000 RPM and the 5 speed lets you get the most out of it. If it was in nicer shape, I would have kept it over the 98 SL500.
