Parkhaus1 is pleased to offer for sale this immaculate 1993 Mercedes Benz 500E in classic Grey Mettalic over Black Leather. This is a beautiful example of a well cared for and completely stock 500E. A very special car, the 500E was the fastest sedan in the world during its production and was hand built in collaboration with Porsche. Performance engineering was injected into all aspects of the W124's systems. The body was enhanced with fender flares and a sportier front air dam and side skirts. The braking components were upgraded front as rear as well with a hydraulic suspension to promote comfort and road holding. The engine was massaged to produce 326 HP and in the stout W124 chassis the car became a "Wolf in Sheep's Clothing". With approximately 1500 units ever imported to the USA, this is a rare opportunity to acquire one of the finest examples remaining. This car presents beautifully and is nearly a time capsule back to 1993! The exterior paint and trim are bright and fresh while the interior is pristine and nearly as new. This low mileage sports sedan has been owned by a collector for many years. It is has been garage kept and serviced religiously. Looks really clean. This car had the original front Brembos replaced with the iron Ate calipers, if you look closely at the front wheel pics. I'm sure some collector would be happy with it. Pics of the undercarriage would be nice.

$60K and I have to replace the coolant reservoir and switch it over to Euro lights. Sheesh.

For 1/2 the price and a little more than twice the miles, someone can have mine which looks just as good outside (and has a new coolant reservoir as well as new Euro lights and fogs)

I'd be curious if serious collectors would want everything all original (i.e., original yellow coolant reservoir) if the items in question are still functional. Me, I'd replace that stuff pronto, but collectors dance to the beat of a different drummer!

The car cover bag in the trunk looks to be the older nylon type material. I'll bet that is a 500E specific car cover inside!

I think $60K is about $15K too optimistic for this car, but we'll see. Funny, not too many years ago this car would have been struggling to get above $30+K.

Yes, I concur. Looks like someone tweaked the clarity slider in Camera Raw a little too far. Gives it a hyper real but not quite HDR look. On the interior photos it looks like they dropped the black point down which loses details in the blacks, but certainly gives it a brochure look. Overall though they had perfect lighting conditions and it's making me reconsider the photographs I took on mine. =)

I test drove a 2014 550i M Sport with the $6,000 audio option(forgot the name). Twin turbo with 400+ horsepower. Power delivery was smooth and incredibly fast.

At $48,000 for a 19,000 mile car tricked out with all factory options and 18 months factory warranty remaining, I would pick it over this 500E.

Modern conveniences aside, (and the bimmer has it in spades), the car drove faster, felt nimbler, and gripper compared to the 500E.

I think it’s time to consider the modern day classics.​

Modern Classic is an oxymoron! Definitely agree with GSXR apples and oranges ! While the modern day info/tech stuff is nice, I'll take a 500E over a new M whatever. I love the analogue feel of the 036. You have to drive the car, not just operate it. Price does seem high. $40 to $50 would seem to be the correct price range.

I looked at this car in person and it's an amazing time capsule. The pictures of the exterior and interior are definitely NOT photoshopped.
The paint shines as if it rolled off the 959 assembly line and the clearcoat has no scratches anywhere, hence that shine. The undercarriage is also perfect with no rust that I could see. It even has the original MB car phone in the armrest and the headliner is the original one with no faults whatsoever and even the original 500E carcover. How do I know ? My dad bought a brand new one when they first came out.
I'm glad the owner didn't ruin this perfect example with non-original Euro headlights, radio, and who knows what else.
This one was left just as Mercedes and Porsche intended the car to be for the US market, and it's 100% unmolested.

Will be interesting to see if this car actually brings FAP (full asking price).

I would only consider a car that is at least 15 years old (and preferably 20 years old) to be a "modern classic" or "young classic". This is exactly the category that a 500E/E500 fits into. Not a two-year-old BMW.

Comparing a two-year-old Bimmer to a 23-year-old Mercedes is a joke. May as well compare an apple and an orange. The person making the comparison shows their market-cluelessness and bias by doing so.

To answer both of your questions, I sold my mint 500E with 30,000 miles for $58,000 earlier this year and recently placed an order for a 2017 AMG GT that will be arriving in 5 to 6 months.

I have Haggerty on my 500E. They don't have mileage restrictions but they do have a few other restrictions. You must have a daily driver that is newer than your Haggerty insured car(s) and you can't use your Haggerty insured car(s) for daily use.

I too had the chance to view this car in person during an event. It is every bit as original as shown in the photos. My guess is that it was stashed away in a MIAMI A/C garage and not driven by its PORSCH ENTHUSIAST owner... E's seem to have come down in value... I don't think this will get is FAP, but perhaps close to that from a guy with bricks of cash in his briefcase (e.g. Miami).

Will be interesting to see if this car actually brings FAP (full asking price).

Rumor on the playground/grapevine is that although the car looks fabulous from a walkaround, it has some issues which are not visible without a close inspection. In particular, there was an accident in the rear which does not appear on the CarFax report, and the repair job was not ideal. And there is some rust at several different locations, both in the paint and elsewhere. There's also the usual mechanical stuff (Gerry's infamous $5k) which isn't a big deal. Anyway, I'd recommend prospective buyers have a VERY detailed PPI done before handing over the suitcase of nonsequential unmarked bills.

My is also 1993 model forgot month of production but it is all black. I think those are all over place seen 1992 with only star in middle silver and letters black but also seen 1992 with letters and star painted

The switchover was during the first third of the US 1993 model year from the silver lettering to all black.

There was actually an "interim" third variety where the letters were painted but the MB Star was molded on and unpainted.
