Note this car is a 500E, pre-facelift, that had a facelift treatment; as it does not have code 859 in the datacard (indicating "early" facelift prior to the VIN break). And, all facelift cars were Polar White (149), not Arctic White (147). It should have come from the factory with monochrome paint as well, not gray lowers.

Looks really nice otherwise, and has the auxiliary heater. First time I've ever seen the REST button on an 036, I wonder if that is functional, and if it was added post-delivery? Odd that the right-most warning indicator is illuminated, this should be blank on non-USA vehicles. Maybe the wrong bulb wire was inserted into this position.

:detective:

I can see why an Austrian car would have the rest button installed perhaps as a Dealer Installed Option, along with the phone holder, etc. Nice car. @gsxr answered all my other questions about year, front fascia and lowers.

maw

maw, according to the EPC, the REST function was never offered on any 034/036. Prior to this car, I've never seen one with that button. Which is why I was curious about it.

In theory a 6-cyl REST harness could be added but I don't know if there's any technical limitations. I always wanted to try this but was never able to obtain the necessary harness (124-440-36-09, NLA for over a decade).

it‘s the MB abbreviation for the German word “Restwärmenutzung” meaning you can heat the car even when switched off with the residual heat of the engine (I believe for a max period of 90 min).
Correct! With the engine off, it runs the auxiliary coolant pump, and blower on low speed, maintaining heat for 15 mins max (click here for a functional description document). In cold climates this is really nice, you can turn this on before going into a store in winter, and when you come out the interior is nice & warm. Or if waiting in the car for SWMBO, you can keep the heat on without running the engine. My interest was for drag race use, running the heater cools the engine rapidly in summer. The 210 and 140 chassis had this feature as standard equipment, Canadian-spec 211 did as well. Not sure about other chassis.

Code 670, but not in this car though... added afterwards. Why is the question.

I could understand why someone would want to retrofit this (I want it too), assuming it works properly. The kit at DE-Spob (1244403309) is specifically for 124 diesels, "ONLY USED WITH HEATING AUTOMATICS AND WITH TEMPMATIK". Tempmatik = manual climate control but I'm not sure what "heating automatics" is.

And what is this button doing? Double horn is serial, not an option... what s this?
Might be another retrofit of some sort, or the button controls something else?

:scratchchin:

I had no idea I had this on my W210. Will I find info in my owners manual? Winter is around the corner.

I really like the grey lowers on this car.
