• Hi Guest !

    Welcome to the 500Eboard forum.

Since its founding in late 2008, 500Eboard has become the leading resource on the Internet for all things related to the Mercedes-Benz 500E and E500. In recent years, we have also expanded to include the 400E and E420 models, which are directly related to the 500E/E500.

We invite you to browse and take advantage of the information and resources here on the site. If you find helpful information, please register for full membership, and you'll find even more resources available. Feel free to ask questions, and make liberal use of the "Search" function to find answers.

We hope you will become an active contributor to the community!

    Sincerely,
    500Eboard Management

Quite low km's if they're real. Supercharger installation look quite homemade.

An old gentleman in great condition 500e. I've had the car for four years, but the history of the car has been known since the end of the 90s, when I bought it from an acquaintance in Sweden.
The car has been fixed without saving money and modded to suit my own eyes. The document can be found from the German days when this one was a year old and went through a tuning workshop, where it was supercharged and all changes were made. The car is also supercharged in Finnish papers and is completely street legal.
There are no defects in the car, except for the creaking rear bumper and the LED bulbs on the instrument panel. The car's engine wiring harness was renewed by a professional and a funky switch was made, so that all the blockages can be removed if desired. The changes were made keeping in mind that if you want, you can make it original like this if you want. I rode Mersu once, one 10km trip in winter. Mersu had driven about 113,000 km when it came into my ownership.
For those who are interested, I can tell you more about the car by phone.

Most are fixable. Bummer it doesn't have memory seats / telescopic steering wheel, or manual climate control.

The bigger issue, for USA buyers, is that the supercharger belt drive eliminated the radiator cooling fan. This is a cold-country setup...
Regarding “cold-country setup” and lack of radiator fan - at first I thought the tank in the trunk was for water injection so I was thinking “hmmmm it might be ok for warmer climes” but then I got to the engine pictures and saw that there is no rad fan and the tank in the trunk is just for washer fluid …… 😬

@500AMM - do you know this car?
No, I've never seen this one before.
The watercooled intercooler is interesting, but 0,35 bar boost isn't that much - approx. the same as mine BTW, and supercharging is a relatively cold process compared to red hot turbochargers, so the power gain from the intercooler is actually questionable. Maybe @Rouven036 could chime in on that since he run a similar setup in his supercharged W123.

They should have installed a narrow blade viscous fan as mine have. I don't know which type it is.

Intercooling generally doesn't produce more power by itself, but should help prevent detonation/knock, and can allow higher boost pressures. 5psi is pretty low, I'm guessing this may have stock 10:1 compression ratio.

Ah! That would be a great solution. From the photos it looked like there was no fan, but there wasn't a good picture of the belt drive / fan area.

Yes, and higher boost and cooler air (i.e. higher air density) requires more fuel to achieve an acceptable A/F ratio, which normally gives higher output. I can't see that piggy back controller which Albrex use on their supercharger kit, could be hidden under the intercooler, or someone else did the supercharging by using an Albrex compressor.

I wonder what would be the selling price..:pc1:

There was another 500E for sale few times back (358kkm) (close to original condition) and it was sold close to 25k€ If I remember correctly.

Classic data inspection was made to that car and grade was 3- . Estimated price for that car was 22k€

I have that classic data report but it is too big to upload here.

:apl:

Few more pictures from supercharger installation documentation

As stated by some, the boost pressure is fairly low so the car might be more or less fine to be driven without however depending on ambient temperatures and/or driving profile can be beneficial to avoid knocking by excessive charge temps but again also depending to some extent as how rich the full load mixture is set (internal cooling).

I decided to run the intercooler as I had always in mind to utilise the superchargers rpm potential but also paired with reduced compression ratio etc.
