UPDATE: March 2024 high bid $45k, RNM. For sale again February 2025, same dealer, same photos... this time NO RESERVE. See post #8 below.
No affiliation. Car was originally delivered to Germany. A previous owner facelifted it. Looks like it has a hideous HID bulb downgrade that needs to be removed, STAT. The foam insulation on the leading edge of the hood is completely gone, fortunately this NLA part is now available as a reproduction item and can be replaced.
Note the exhaust heat shields are completely rusted/rotted away, and the exhaust pipes have been painted black, with the NON-FACTORY resonator painted silver. There is very likely other rust/corrosion. The rear subframe bushings are completely collapsed. Minor surface corrosion is visible on other undercarriage components. Sad to see on such a low-mile / low-KM vehicle. The correct factory resonator is NLA, this car had a 400E resonator modified to fit (and painted silver). Might just be my computer monitor, but the spare tire well interior looks a bit odd, almost like it was rattle-canned silver? Not sure about that.
This car likely spent time in Japan, as evidenced by the LHT (Japan/UK spec) headlights, and multiple decals in the driver door jamb & on top of the ASR unit in what appears to be Japanese.
Generally looks nice otherwise.

The result of a collaboration between two of the most legendary German automakers, the Mercedes-Benz 500E was created in 1989 with the help of Porsche’s engineers to equip a 5.0-liter V8 engine from the SL-Class roadster with the W124 E-Class chassis. This 1993 European-spec "E500" example comes finished in Brilliant Silver Metallic over a Black leather interior and was imported to the U.S. from Japan by its seller in 2023 before undergoing a host of service items. Showing approximately 58k kilometers (36k miles) on the odometer, this E500 is now being auctioned out of New York.
Throughout a specialized 18-day build process, each 500E was hand-assembled by Porsche at Zuffenhausen, moved to Mercedes-Benz for painting, and finally delivered to Porsche's "Rössle-Bau" plant where the car’s assembly was completed. The high-performance 500E could be distinguished from the standard W124 E-Class by its wider stance, flared fenders, side skirts, and front air dam. This example is finished in Brilliant Silver Metallic (744) and rides on 17” Evo-style wheels. The seller notes that the windows have been tinted and the car was professionally detailed upon their acquisition. Additional images are provided in the gallery along with paint meter readings and a clean CARFAX report.
Inside, this E500 is upholstered in Black leather accented by burl wood trim spanning the dashboard, door panels, and center consoles. Equipment includes 2+2 Recaro sport seats, heated and power-operated front seats, automatic climate control, cruise control, an electric tilt/slide sunroof, a folding front armrest, and a new VDO Continental Bluetooth radio. The seller adds that some deterioration is present around the gauge cluster, a defect commonly found in these cars.
Derived from the contemporary 500 SL Roadster, the 500E is powered by a 5.0-liter M119 32-valve DOHC V8 engine producing up to 322 HP and 354 lb.-ft of torque. The rear wheels are driven through a 4-speed automatic transmission while stopping power is handled by large disc brakes also borrowed from the 500 SL. Upon acquisition, the seller had service performed including changes of the engine oil, coolant, brake fluid, power steering fluid, transmission, and differential fluids as well as new spark plugs, a new muffler, and a new rear passenger-side self-leveling hydraulic shock absorber.
This sale will include a spare tire and a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “Been looking for a nice example of a W124 500E? This will tick the boxes! Sourced overseas in late 2022, when it arrived, we were very delighted. The car presents very well and did not appear to need anything. As a preventative measure, we sent to our German repair specialist and had him do a good list of preventative services along with a new passenger rear strut since some noise was coming from the existing one. This car drives sublimely and is sure to make any Benz enthusiast very happy. We are here to answer questions
